Sure Paul I can save some seeds for you. I am heading off to the Mornington Peninusula for the heritage rose conference Monday week so this week is getting my talk together and organising pots, watering etc. etc - so the seeds will not get posted for a little while.

Pat,

I'm assuming that it would be sown in autumn anyway, or should it be sown relatively quickly?  Either way, I doubt a few weeks will matter in the slightest!  ;D  THANK YOU!!

P.S.  Good luck with the rose conference.
Cheers.

Min winter temp -8 or -9°C. Max summer temp 40°C. Thankfully, maybe once or twice a year only.

Hans I started collecting ripe pods of Iris planifolia today!!!
Lots of seeds in each pod with a few more to collect.
Pat
Pat , would there be a few seeds of Iris planifolia left for me too? Any chance to visit me next week , while attending the Rose Conference on the Mornington Peninsula ? Olinda and Mornington are only one hour apart in the car. After my hospital stay, I spent a few days at my cousin's home , on the waters edge , overlooking the ocean, with a glass of wine, in the town of Mornington.
it would be great to meet you in person,
                 Otto.

Hey Otto lovely to hear that you are well on the road to recovery and I would love to meet in person.
There is 4 of us travelling from SA (one is the editor of the RNRS Historic Roses journal) so if you don't mind a few extras. We are visiting John Nieuwesteeg and also Rob Peace - JN on Thursday and maybe Rob on the following morning. So a.m. Thursday 13th maybe or the afternoon before?

Thanks to all! :D

The Iris-mania has started in the northern hemisphere 8) ;D

yesssssssssss ;D - earlier than expected - it is the first time this particular plant flowers so early even if this is a autumn flowering form - lets see which iris will be the next one - in my garden it could be Iris paradoxa! ::) :o

Welcome back, Otto! :D

A wonderful clump Hans !   :o :o
It's obvious it really enjoys the outdoors in your climate !

Do you know if I. planifolia would tolerate our much wetter summers... and winters ???

A truly beautiful iris Hans. I hope you are hand-pollinating every one? Having said that, I read somewhere long ago that in the wild at least, if I. planifolia sets seed, the process uses so much enery that the bulb itself frequently dies. Perhaps in the garden, with better nutrition and care, this wouldn't happen.

Lesley and Luc, thanks for the comments :D

Luc – I think we have more rainfall here in winter than you in Belgium – but the summer is totally dry and here we have absolutly frost free conditions in winter - I have not heard about a cultivation of this species in the garden neither in Germany nor in Britain – it seems to be a typical greenhouse / bulbframe plant there.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

Lesley – this clump resulted of two bulbs I received a few years ago and I think it is all the same clone, there is no other Iris planifolia in flower actually  – so it is doubtfull it sets seeds –  in any case I and also some bees have tried to pollinate the flowers. ;)

Hans, I heard in Holland that there seem to be two types of this Iris.
The one from N. Africa is more hardy than the type from S. France.
I never had it to try, but your plant is really beautiful!

My first Iris-flower for this season that started to flower today : Iris palaestina.
This one is a bit yellowish and not white as I had last year.
