Some South African Seeds available from Oz
« on: April 17, 2013, 09:18:54 AM »
Crossyne flava has been astounding in its seed production - probably more than a thousand!
I also have some Amaryllis belladonna types - mostly pink shades which will be available in smaller quantities ;D
And maybe some Brunsvigia gregaria - but not sure on the viability as I only have one clone - some may've crossed with the nerine pollen I've been daubing it with as well!
Anyone interested please contact me by e-mail or PM
And I've found out that I can take them to the czech republic without a problem so if you're going to the confernce please let me know if you want some - first come, first served!
cheers

I was interested to read about your crossing Brunsvigia for seed varieties. I have a 65 yr old bulb that has 10 offsets , but only 2 flower a dark tomato red . I think it is Josephinae. So far I have tried in an amateur way to cross them with belladonna, both white and pink. Lots of seed did set and produced seedlings, but that was 2 years ago and of course I am still waiting for them to flower, so I will not know how successful the results will be for some years. I am interested in adding more varieties to my garden so that cross pollination might occur naturally[? depending on flowering coordination ]  or more likely with the help of pollen collected and stored in the fridge till the right time. Do you have any seed available? If not then how about as a result of next flowering season late summer 2014? I will attempt this season to cross more carefully with clip lock bags to isolate the crosses. Any suggestions? Regards John

Hello and welcome, John.
Your 65 year old bulb has all the hallmarks of a great plant- well done on the care of the "old girl" !
