Maybe my shrub will make seeds ( I dont know if it self fertil or not ) ...my second plant has not survived  :'(

So I can distribute this nice plant a little more !

Sorry, to see this so late.
We grow it in the nursery I work, from seeds collected, two years ago. I know this species for over 20 years. Some very fine examples grow in front of the canarian house in the botanic garden of Hannover.

I received seed of Petteria ramentacea from Hans and I wrote to Uli W. (Onion)who is "our" shrub expert, to see if he had any advice for how to sow the seed for best results ?  If the seeds should be deep or do they need light... and should it be sown now and put outside for the winter or sown under glass  in spring time?

Dear Uli has given this answer....

"Hello Maggi,

the seeds of Petteria ramentacea are best sown in autumn. They need a cold period. In the nursery we put them in a unheated glass house. We covered them with sand and use our normal broadleaf substrate (nothing special). The seed is covered with 1 cm of sand. Need dark conditions to germinate. Germinate very quickly around March.
Very important: the slugs love the young seedlings. We lost some in one night.
Can't say how the grow when sown outside, because all our seeds are in the unheated glass house, the oldest we have in the nursery (more than 80 years old. Used in the past as a fern house).

Hope I can give you some help with this nice plant.

I still have some seeds to give away and now with this good tips is it easier ...more forumists should try to grow this plants !!!

I am pleased to say that my seeds are germinating as nothing happened last year, they have been totally neglected outside through the last winter apart from being kept dry.  I have administered slug repellents and am keeping my fingers crossed :)
