Hepatica Blooming in Ontario Canada
« on: April 29, 2013, 02:06:06 AM »
Hello everyone;

I went into the backyard today and little patches of colour caught my eye. Turns out the hepatica have started blooming and I was surprised at the different colours and flower forms I've collected over the years. Thought I'd share the images.

Very nice, Lori (hey, that's my name too!). They've just started blooming in my yard.  You certainly have a good variety!

I posted a few pictures of the wild Hepatica of Ontario after a visit last year http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=8987.0 .  I had thought they were classified as a different species to nobilis but now I see that the Wikipedia entry indicates that is not settled http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hepatica .  They are not a wild flower of Great Britain or Ireland so we are deprived of their beauty out in the countryside.
Almost in Scotland.

Hi Loripep - long time no see! Good to see your hepatica enthusiasm is bearing fruit- or should that be flower?  ;)

I'm wondering if the blue nobilis without stamens has semi-double genes. Loss of the stamens seems to have provided extra petals.

How could I use the genes from this plant to breed other semi-doubles? Any chance that two semi-double parents could produce a full double?
