It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Graham Wenham  of the Edinburgh Group. Graham became well known  for his work for the wider Club membership on the SRGC Displays at Gardening Scotland and the Seed Exchange Distribution.
We send our sincere condolences to Mrs Wenham and their family.

From Stan da Prato, who worked closely with Graham on the displays and who had considerable admiration for Graham's courage in the face of his illness:

"Graham  passed away peacefully surrounded by  his family on 25th March. Graham  was a stalwart of the Edinburgh & Lothians group of the SRGC.  An engineer by profession he organised  the design  and building  of the club stand at Gardening  Scotland in the last two years. He also worked  on the  joint stand with Kevock in 2011.  He had known  for some years that his kidneys were not functioning properly but decided  not to have  dialysis. He felt it would interfere with his  many activities. He proceeded to  confound  medical opinion  but recently  his health deteriorated  and he told us in his calm way that he would not be available  to build the 2014 stand. The family have found it helpful to know  the high regard club members  had for  Graham - even people who had never met him  were aware of his contribution to the club."


We will post details of Graham's funeral when these are announced.

"On behalf of all the members of the SRGC, I would like to express our deep sadness at Graham's passing  and offer our condolences to all of his family and friends.  Graham was a great friend to many of us, both in the Edinburgh Group and in the wider club.  He was one of life's volunteers, always ready to help and contribute.  He worked hard to make sure that the seed distribution, the Edinburgh Show and the Gardening Scotland stand worked effectively, and presented the SRGC in the best possible light.  We will all miss his wicked sense of humour, banter with colleagues and charming manner; he will be sadly missed.

Hello all, I would like to pay tribute to Graham his contribution to the SRGC displays at Gardening Scotland was immense, he built the wooden structure and always on hand if anything needed fixed, never changed in all the time I knew him he just quietly got on with the job, we have lost a great friend we shall miss him. I have decided to help at this years show with the SRGC display and we plan to create a super display to remember Graham, cheers Ian the Christie kind

Indeed, he will be missed greatly. A very sad loss to the Edinburgh Group, as well as to the Club as a whole, particularly as we have our show in a few weeks. Graham gave much of his time helping out before and during the event. My sincere condolences to Graham's family.

Graham’s funeral will be held on Friday 4th April at 4pm at West Lothian Crematorium,  Cousland Wood, Starlaw Rd, Livingston, West Lothian EH54 7FD.

Several of Graham's SRGC friends attended the funeral on Friday afternoon. Though we knew him through plants he was very much a motor engineer by profession and this was reflected  in  the very large number of former work colleagues  from the industry who were present. He was a keen follower  of Formula 1 and this and his quirky sense of humour came as the F1 title music was played as the coffin entered the chapel. The order of service  card carried  a photo of Graham  on his garden  tractor.
Talking  afterwards to his family Claire and Kirstie -who many will remember  as co-owner of Border Belles nursery for a while - hope to come to see the SRGC team  as we finish re-erecting the stand Graham  put so much into at Gardening  Scotland later this spring.

For a person to be  remembered with respect, affection and humour   is the best one can hope for, is it not?
