Title: 2012 Site 4
Post by: fredg on June 15, 2012, 07:44:53 PM
This site is a  reclaimed coal mining slag heap.
Spotted a nice little colony of Ophrys apifera by the path on the way up to the top.
The Dactylorhiza are in the process of flowering the stage depending on the species/ hybrid.
Many of the deep pink ones are very short, 2 - 8 inches (5 - 20 cm) only ( see pics 9 and 10 ).
Down by the lakeside there was also an occasional Dactylorhiza praetermissa / hybrid(?), which I have not noticed in previous years, these were well into flowering ( pics 14 & 15 )
