Title: New shady trough

My first post and immediately a question  :) ,

I'm going to plant a small crevice-garden in a trough and I want to place it in the shade (I have a few in full sunlight already).
I was thinking of planting Ramonda myconi, Jankaea heldreichii and Haberlea rhodopensis in it. Can anyone of you give me some advice on other plants which might like those conditions?

Welkom op het forum..  ;D

A trough in the shade should definitely not be without some Saxifraga (Kabschia's) !
Why not try a Paraquilegia anemonoïdes and/or  some Hepatica's ?

Since you seem to be going for lime-lovers - these should all be ok !

A small Erytrichium Dens Canis should do nicely as well.

And we will need to see a picture when you've finished planting it up !

I'm sure there will be more ideas to follow from others

Please Luc, what's a small Erytrichium dens-canis? I've never heard of it but it sounds nice, and I need trough lime-lovers. The only Erytrichiums I know are indeed small but difficult.

I would also like to know what eritrichium dens-canis is. I know eritrichium canum/rupestre, is this the same?

I think that Luc made a mistake and meant to write " a small Erythronium dens-canis" ! ::)

You could try hepaticas, especially the marked leaf ones, or there are several ferns that would be small enough. Here is my fern trough.

Clockwise from bottom right: Asplenium trichomanes; A.t. 'Cristatum'; A. csikii trogyense; A. csikii; Cystopteris regia; Asplenium (Phyllitis) scolopendrium self-sown; A. trichomanes 'Incisum'. Also in bottom section is Adder's Tongue (Ophioglossum vulgatum), and in top section Fern sp ACE 1433 (which looks rather like Adder's tongue but isn't). These two are hidden behind the others.

Thanks Luc, I thought of this too but, thought it needed a deep container; I have Erythronium dens-canis but in the open ground. How deep a container does this species need? If not too much I will buy more for a trough I have.

I like the idea of a fern-trough also but that will be something for my next project  :)
I think I'll put a hepatica nobilis var. pyrenaica in, and I like the Paraquilegia anemonoïdes but can someone tell me where I might be able to buy this plant?

Well you could join the British Pteridological Society and grow them from spores, as we do. Or if I can manage to pack them somehow, I might have spares of some.

But no little primulas if you're planning a limey trough. How about Trillium rivale and T. nivale?

I got a specimen of Paraq. anemonoides from Aberconwy earlier this year.
