Hi all ,
here are pics of my first flowering Agapanthus :D
it is a
Agapanthus 'Double Diamond'
no wonder with bad flowering Agapanthus in this summer ( after the weather in May )
I have bought in last year some of this small sized Agapanthus ( from a nice german nursery ) - thats a really good addition for my collection ( the diameter of this pot is 13 cm )
I hope to post later more pics from this genus ....but until now I have to wait :-\

I prefer really more this smaller Agapanthus ....when I see my big and heavy pots :o
In last year I have also sowing Agapanthus !

That is a really lovely small Agapanthus. I like Agapanthus and must look for that one. As its so small it would sit well in a small pot in a small garden.

How have you found Agapanthus 'Double Diamond' to grow? It was released here in SA in 2006 and I was lucky to be given a plant at the launch. It looked great in flower, good planted in the garden and then disappeared! A number of people I spoke to had similar experiences in terms of their plants suddenly dying off.

I have this pot in winter in my greenhouse ....and later on our terrace - not always in full sun -one or two times in week watering -thats all .
I have also some other of this small Agapanthus ..but they shows no buds

Really lovely Agapanthus 'Double Diamond'
I have a couple of dwarf agapanthus. One that I have and never been able to flower is Tinkerbell, the folage is nice creamy variegated foliage so at least I have something to look at. I suppose maybe it hasn't had enough sunshine ::) Have you got this one and if so have you had any success with flowering.
The other one is ready to flower, I don't have the name but I shall post a picture and see if anyone can help me with the name.

donīt worry, it is not your fault that it donīt flowers. I would love to hear from anyone that it can flower. I never saw them flowering.

I grow two hardy Agapathus outdoors here in zone 7B, and they have done pretty well in the last 4 years:
- A. 'Bressingham Blue'
- A. 'White Lined'
and I'd be interested to hear about other hardy ones that you might have experirenced succesfully in similar conditions...

Such graceful Agapanthus in your planting Zephirine, I have only grown blues but the whites do look wonderful with dark behind. I love watching Agapanthus grow from the emerging leaves to the fountain effect and then the shooting firework of each flower.
Maybe the wet/cool produces more leaf than flower? Mine flowered best in a south facing spot in dryish conditions backed by a wall.

`Sunfieldīis a good hardy cultivar, here it survived -15° in the garden of my mother in law, without any protection (I told her to protect it but...)

sounds like microprop Calvin :-X, some plants produced this way need a year or two to be hardend off for the great outdoors :-\

Agapanthus 'Lilliput' or not :-\
I bought two plants named 'Lilliput' from the same place several years ago and have divided them several times to get to what you see today.
However, if you look closely there appears to be two different forms here.
The group in the left foreground flowers a week or so earlier than the rest. It is slightly paler and the inflorescens is not as globular as the others.

These are just for you to see I'm not looking for an ID.

I have an Agapanthus in a very bad position where it gets no direct sun, when it shines, until after 3 pm. In 2008 it had 17, if I remember correct, flower stems. In 2009 it failed to flower. This year it has over 30 flower stems. Not bad for a plant growing in pure peat and semi shade

I went out to take a photo that my Agapanthus doesnt get full sun after 3pm. It's actually in semi shade due to a large cut leaf Sambucus

Some of my agapanthus.
'Cedric Morris' has pretty flowers touched with pink but the stems don't hold the flowerheads well; I made the mistake of planting it next to the front drive and the flowers always flop onto the drive and the next person to pull in runs over them....
'Midnight Star', reliable dark blue
'Yellow Tips', not very yellow and quickly fades to white
'Silver Mist' - a real star in the garden. Very vigorous with really good sturdy stems of silvery blue flowers. I think it would probably like to be evergreen but comes back reliably after the winter.

Gail, Ag. Silver Mist is looking very interesting with those short stems. Nice color too and a good flowerer.

a plant that has flowered this year for the first time.
Phantom is a lovely white with blue shading on the tips.
The recent success with tissue culture of this genus has resulted in many new varieties reaching the market.
I really want to see this as a mature plant in a big pot.
I doubt that it is very hardy so it will spend the winter in a cold greenhouse.

I'm thinking that 'Cedric Morris' and 'Phantom' would make a lovely pair.... pink tips and blue tips, so pretty.

this seedlings is from OP seed from 'Enigma'.
Enigma is a nice bicolour with basically white flowers shaded blue on the outside.
The most likely male parent is 'ex Johannseburg' - a tall growing blue with large airy panicles.
Mots of the seedlings flowering for the first time this year are variations on this theme.
If any grow to the size of the male parent they should be really nice.
Just one is different which I'll post next,

hi,
the only seedling from 'Enigma' to flower with pale flowers is shown below.
Although the seed is OP, it is almost certainly crossed with 'Windsor Grey' which was flowering at the same time.
Windsor Grey is a lovely 'dove grey' flower and this seedling is almost identical.
The veining is a bit bluer than WG.
The flower head is huge for a first flowering seedling and bodes well for the future!
I'm please with these seedlings and will try a few more. Phantom looks to be setting a nice head this year so look out in three years time.
