Title: Cypripedium meadow
Post by: johanneshoeller on January 27, 2010, 10:40:24 AM
Altough spring is far away, some pics of a Cypripedium meadow.
Please do not ask a question about the location and I will not dig up any Cypripedium.
Very interesting is the soil: there is the normal soil, not a special mixture, only a little wet and well drained!
Enjoy the pics!

Absolutely magnificent Hans ... you have made my day!!!   :D :D :D

May we please enquire about the time of year when the image was taken?

The photos were taken in May.
There are only nature forms and hybrids of them and not other named hybrids.

Very nice to see this. Is it growing at very high altitudes or "normal" altitudes? I presume it is in central Europe so that it gets cold winters (with snow cover?) and warm summers (how warm?).

Truly a sight to dream about seeing and even more to create in the garden.
All the best
Joakim

Can you tell us something about it.
I mean not location but can you tell us about climate, soil, history etc.
Cheers

Fantastic... what species are represented?

The plants are not growing at very high altitudes but "normal" altitudes (600m). The winters are normal with snow and rain and the summers not very hot. If we have much rain, we will have the best success.
The meadow shows us only plants from Europe, Russia, North Korea and a few from islands near Japan (calceolus, macranthos and x ventricosum but many very different clones!).

Oh, not a natural meadow then... incredibly wonderful, nonetheless, though.

I've never seen anything like it. Monocultures are normally pretty risky and yo usay that this has been growing for 15 years. Impressive.

That is amazing to have success with differant species in the one growing area.

Wish to see close ups of flowers...

Thanks for showing..very beautiful. :)
