Title: Iris galatica
Post by: Alex on January 12, 2010, 08:51:48 PM
From my greenhouse today, done under artificial light out of necessity! Flowered for the first time last year after about 4 years from a small bulb, maybe it will consider offsetting now?

A stunner Alex. Was it so early last year?

A couple of weeks later last year...
Now fancy that....EARLIER this year ..... especially in the light ( if you will pardon the pun) of the conversation we've just been having about low light levels and etiolation and suffering bulbs in the Crocus pages...  ???

Indeed - but I blame the unseasonably mild weather we had in Nov/Dec before, for some odd reason, it suddenly decided to snow...

Of course, I had overlooked that since it wasn't that mild up here. Whatever the cause... it is really pretty..... you must be pleased it is doing well.

Bravo Alex, a superb start to your Juno year I suspect! What sort of lighting regimen are you employing?

The lighting is just for the picture since it was dark outside, I don't have growlights (would be good, though...)

Nicely flowered, fingers crossed the post flower botrytis will stay away, have you considered using a small 5v dc fan for improving ventilation in a small area?

Thank you - the greenhouse is a decent size, but maybe that angle is rather flattering since the Iris is right at the end...

...I do have a fan in fact, it's blowing directly on to the Irises so maybe things will be better this year (the setup  is new).

I should imagine it would work Alex, I'm employing the same principle with my Masdevallia orchids.
Look forward to seeing more of your Junos! :D
