Post by: SAXIFRAGE at LYMINGE on June 05, 2009, 01:31:46 PM
I cannot let this wonderfull year for Saxifrage pass without a few pictures of the Silvers. They are fantastic plants to grow in the garden or in troughs. Interesting foiliage and good flower power.

1 S. Longifolia
2 S. Alan Hayhurst & S. Snowdrift
3 S. Hostii
4 S. Reginald Farrer
5 S. Canis- Dalmatica
6 Silvers in a Rock Pavement Bed
7 Ditto
8 Small scree area

Best Wishes David

Thanks for showing.

A wonderful froth of white from your Saxifraga with such different growing habits - no wonder you're so proud of them David  :)

I have only just begun to really appreciate them in a raised bed where you can view them in detail and will definitely accommodate the Silvers - just love the S. Longifolia but will see what I can find.

Hi Luc
Yes the majority are white but several have wonderfull markings on the petals, the best being S. Southside Seedling & S. Canis Dalmatica.I'm afraid my cheap camera does not do close ups very good. Also S. Esther has a soft yellow flower & S. Hare Knoll Beauty has rose coloured flowers.
There is a new silver just out called S. Jaromir it was a seedling found in Jaromir Guishap garden in the Czech Rep' This has red flowers
I got it from Gerd Stoop in Germany. There is a picture of it on the Sax Society Forum/ Lyminge Update/ page2
Best Wishes David

David,

That first one in particular is fantastic.  Amazing spray of flowers.  Saxs are something I haven't tried as I am so hot here in summer that I figure they won't do well for me.  I do grow the "mother of millions", which is spreading about the place and seems pretty happy, but I realise it is a hardier one.  I do so like your silver ones though.  :o

David,
I've been growing southside seedling for many years and it sure is one of my favourites too.
I tried Canis dalmatica too but lost it and never crossed the path of a new plant..  :-\

I had a look at the red coloured S. Jaromir.. WOW  :o that might become a real stunner.  I hope it does well and that it will become available in the trade in not too many years...  It could be a very valuable addition to the silver family !!
