Title: Viola 'Sylvia Hart'
Post by: SueG on March 23, 2007, 01:44:34 PM
I'm trying to track down a supplier of this plant who does mail order - the one UK supplier in the Plant Finder doesn't do mail order and they are quite a way from me (more than a day trip!). Having seen the picture on the Rocky Mountain Rare Plants site it's leapt up the list of wants!
Does anyone know any other suppliers.
Many thanks
Sue

Another thought, Sue : if you tell us who supplies the plant, maybe a forumist who lives nearby could go buy you one and send it on to you?
My check of the plant finder says this:  Anita & Andrew Thorp
No 5,Main Street, Theddingworth, Leicestershire, LE17 6QZ
United Kingdom
Telephone(01858) 880496

So you need someone in Leicestershire, near Theddingworth..... anyone out there near there??!!

A & A Throp
Theddingworth
Leicestershire
LE17 6QZ

For the historical inclined, just North of Naseby
or South of Leicester, East of M1 junction 20.
(To finish it off, West of Market Harborough :)).

Yes, they were the only people i could find - so if there was anyone out there who could help out - I'd be very grateful - a 500 mile round trip seems excessive for a small Viola and very un eco-friendly!

I believe the seed people in Devon have it listed, or did a while back. Plant World? Something like that. Are we talking about the variegated viola here? If so, it does come almost entirely true from seed. Having said that, I think it's thoroughly disgusting and was delighted when it finally died without trace.

I suppose it IS variegated, I would say it had two tone leaves like a good silvered cyclamen!

Yours sounds much pleasanter than mine was Maggi. There was very muddled variegation so that the leaves were splashed green and cream very irregularly as if someone had been ...No, won't say it.

Sue, I have checked the on-line seed catalogue for PlantWorld,Devon and Viola "Sylvia Hart" doesn't appear to be listed. I shall be going to PlantWorld sometime during the next few weeks so if you would like me to check further please let me know. If they have a plant I would be happy to get one for you and post it on.
