Here is the first blooming, almost with me, for H. solandriflorum. I had it labelled with this name but I am not sure of the ID (fragrantissimum?). It is strongly scented and the fragrance fils the greenhouse.
Alberto
Hippeastrum solandriflorum

Beautiful Alberto !
What is the home of this species ?
-
Alberto,
Very, very nice. Looks like an elegant little species, that is for sure. Well done for flowering it, and good luck for confirming the name. The shape appeals to me greatly, so much more delicate than so many of the species (not that I don't like the larger species as well! ;))
Thanks for posting the picture. 8)
-
Paul, it is not a miniature or dwarf species. The flower stalk is about 50 cm long and the flower with the tube over 20 cm. Only the throath is greenish otherwise it is candid and, sorry if I repeat, strongly scented!

Alberto,
Sorry, my phrasing of "elegant little species" was incorrect. I didn't actually think it was a miniature or dwarf, but my comment certainly read like that now that I look at it. It still has a delicacy that the big "hybrid" types (and a few of the species) don't have, and perfume as well is a BIG plus. I like that trumpet effect, almost lilium-like in appearance in your pic. Very beautiful!

Here is another amazing blooming. I grow them in the same pot from over a decade. It should be H. x johnsonii
Alberto

What a Charming and colourful display, Alberto!
-
Good grief. How big is that pot!!!! :o
-
Paul, I am been growing it in a clay bowl about 40 cm in diameter.
Alberto

Another scented Hippeastrum: vittatum.
-
Alberto,
I like the markings on that last one, but still can't get past that previous pot. Impressive! 8)

Aha! I saw you had a new avatar photo and I wondered what it was! :D
The red and green is gorgeous, a very smart and striking combination.
But, Hans, are you not supposed to be walking in the Black Forest now? :-\ Or are you home in time for watching Le Tour? ;D
-
Hi Maggi :D
As you know has start today the Tour .......... ;D
so we are back since yesterday evening !
I have taken with me this two Hippeastrum and the Cryptostephanus to see them flowering in Black Forrest....I had fear to come home and the flowers are over :'(

Hi Hans
your H. aulicum that variety is
-

Strong green in the throat, isn't it. Very nice combination. 8)
-
Hi Hans
your H. aulicum that variety is
Alessandro :
Do you think it is a variety of H.aulicum ?
which ?
-
Dear Hans, you amazed me with this pictures! It is unusual for aulicum to flower now, bt it looks just aulicum.
Alberto
-
Alberto ,
do you think it is a variety ?
the leaves are a bit red , the bracts are different on each plant :from light pink until dark green ( I have now 3 flowering plants )
I have also a other H. aulicum ( from Netherland ) this family grows it since 80 years !
the leaves of this plants green like grass ...
-
Hans,
great success.
I have H.aulicum with leafes "green like grass" and the flowers seem not to be as bright as yours, flowering time usually is November/December and I have plants I got as H.aulicum var. robustum with darker green leaves and one H.aulicum with reddish leafs, both didnīt flowered until now.
The pictures show my H.aulicum, can you see differences?
Bye the way: Usually people make journeys with their dogs or cats....but with plants? I though I am a freak!

Friends, I have made a new topic in the General Section, for stories about the extreme measure we may take to enjoy our plants: as when Hans took his bulbs on holiday with him so as not to miss their flowering ! It is here: http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=3812.0

A new Hippeastrum is flowering for me, Hippeastrum evansiae. It is a evergreen one which makes stolones, very interesting.
-
Such an interesting plant and colour, Renate! Does it have a scent?
-
Rogan,
no scent but I love this creamy green colour. It is a small one, nearly 35cm high and the flowers have a diameter of 10cm from leaf tip to leaf tip.
-
Very nice, Renate. Good to see you have a second scape coming, too. Well done.
-
Paul,
it was a great surprise. I was happy that it managed to get one flowerstalk and then the another one :D
-
after some days without sun is it possibly today to take some pics :
Hippeastrum papilio
what a nice surprise in this ugly November days :D

Hi Hans, my mum just told me they are house plants for us :-[ and she said I have one, don't know what its name is but I have only had leaves for the past year, I will maybe look after it a bit better and see if it gives me a flower, mums come in handy.
Angie :)
-
Angie -please send a pic ...maybe anybody knows the name of this plant !
-
Hi Hans,
a wonderful H.papilio!
Oh, if we could grow them outside...just a dream.
-
Hans,
Recently (last week) I had what is supposed to be Hippeastrum papillio x cybister flowering for me. Very similar to papillio to my eye, but not as broad in the petals as the other form of papillio I grow I think, although I should really go back and check my old pics of the other one. Attached is a pic anyway, so if anyone feels that it isn't a hybrid with cybister please let me know.
Enjoy.
Please click on the pic for larger version.
-
Thank you Renate :)
Paul .
your plant looks for me really like a hybrid between cybister x papilio :-\
but a very nice plant !
-
Paul,
never saw a crossing between cybister and papilio. I am surprised, it looks really good, it seem to have the best of both in colour and flower shape.
-
Thanks Hans. I thought the more slender petals should indicate a hybrid, but then there are always strains of things that are different to the usual, although still being the species. That is why I asked. I do have a hybrid from another source, and from memory it was more spidery again. I'll see if I can find pictures, if anyone is interested?
Renate,
It has an elegance about it. I only had two flowers on this stem, and apparently the flowers should be in 4's and much larger than the flowering this year. It is only the first flowering and the bulb may still not be mature enough for full size. I was given the bulb last year.
-
Hippeastrum papilio known as the Butterfly Amaryllis.
