Does anyone have seeds of these four species?
Cacalia delphiniifolia
Geranium aristatum
Geranium sinense
Lychnis cognata
I would love to swap for any of them.
Cheers,
James

Good luck James, I would love to find some Geranium Aristatum and Geranium sinense too.
Am hoping to get some Aristatum in the seed exchange, it is one of my selections.
-
I might have some G. aristatum seeds. I have never had seeds on my G. sinense.
-
Mark, do you know if Geranium phaeum var. hungaricum is much like G.Sinense?
I just found a picture of it and it is gorgeous.
I love the Phaeums but the only one I have seen locally is the G. Phaeum.
-
Geranium sinense is much nicer as shown below
-
It's absolutely beautiful.
If you've got it flaunt it eh?
No wonder you don't get seeds, it must use itself up putting on that display.
Is the flower bigger than a phaeum?
-
I would say G. sinense is smaller and more delicate. You should also like G. delavayi, G. reflexum and pogonanthum
-
Yes, I am sure you are right from what I have seen.
Do you happen to have pics of the three you mentioned?
I found some with google but your pics of G. Sinense are much nicer than the ones I found
-
Helen, try Mark's site.... the Mark's Garden Plants one.... http://www.marksgardenplants.com/
probably find them there... or search both this and the old Forum... he has pictured lots here at one time or another..... 8)
-
Thanks Maggi, will do both.
It's like going on a treasure hunt.
-
Helen, there aren't quite as many as I thought, thought there are a few scattered about.... http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=1925.msg46957;topicseen#msg46957 this one is quite good but I don't know if it has the ones you're looking for, but you'll enjoy the search anyhow, as you say! 8)
-
Maggi, I don't think you realize what you have done. ( or do you) ;D
I had no idea pelargoniums came in so many different shapes and colours.
The tricolour is amazing.
Now I have to start a new list and it is your fault!! :o

Jean
I know the feeling Jean.
-
Remarkable , Jean, how on earth did Helens husband know you were daft... I had no idea you'd met... ::)
.... and by the way, what took you so long to get here??? :-\ :-X ;)
-
OMG Jean I'm soooo happy to see you come in from the dark! Two years is a long time to stay lurker
-
Maggi - is that a new puppy you've acquired?
-
No, Christine, the puppy is in the avatar of Jean Wyllie, who has just come out into the Forum after lurking in the background from the very beginning of the Old Forum!
It is the Wyllie's young spaniel, Pete, now no longer a tiny pup but a large working dog !
-
Well, I found some beauties in my search, the list grows.

In case anyone else would like to drool. ;D
-
Mark,
Those sinense pics are absolute corkers!! The contrasts in that first pic in particular are very striking. Another species I shall have to keep an eye out for. ::)
Thanks for the pics. 8)
Helen,
My poor long-suffering wife has known for years that I am a nutter. SHE claims that I hid it before we were married though, and that I changed after the deed had been done. :o I reckon I've been a plant nutter all along, but that she just chose to overlook my infirmities in that department due to the rose coloured glasses of love . ;D
-
Helen would you like some Geranium seeds?
If you are going to get hooked with hardy Geraniums you should buy the book 'Hardy Geraniums' by Peter Yeo
http://www.amazon.ca/Hardy-Geraniums-Peter-F-Yeo/dp/0881920193/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230419248&sr=1-3 (http://www.amazon.ca/Hardy-Geraniums-Peter-F-Yeo/dp/0881920193/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230419248&sr=1-3)
Here's another Geranium to look for is G. 'Pagoda'. It looks down also
-
Paul, you crack me up, I bet your wife loves to enjoy the fruits of your labours in the garden.
-
Mark, yes please!!!!!
;D ;D ;D
I would like to buy the book and will if I ever see it, I might be able to order it from Chapters in Moncton, I'm really at a loss when it comes to Amazon.
I did have David Hibberd's "Hardy Geraniums", before I came to Canada.
-
Maggie I thought you knew his name is PEAT
Jim chose the name and I the spelling.
Ooops! Yes, sorry, Jean! M x
-
Mark pity I did not look at your website when I was ordering seed from the SRGS seedlist. If you ever have seed of Pelagonium triste....
Pat
-
Paul, you crack me up, I bet your wife loves to enjoy the fruits of your labours in the garden.
Helen,
Yes she does enjoy the garden, she just isn't game to touch it in case she pulls something out as a weed, that isn't!! :o
Pat,
Mark's website is very dangerous..... there are some wonderful flowers there, triste just one of the many!! ;D
Mark,
Is the Pagoda as intense as in that picture? That is a wonderfully intense colour!! 8)
-
Paul, I now have seeds of P. triste if you are interested? Yes Geranium 'Pagoda' is dark and maybe slightly deeper in colour in real life.
-
Paul, it sounds like she has been well trained.
My other half is the same, but he does dig good holes when I need them ;D ;D
-
Mark,
I'll PM you soon.
Helen,
Who has space for holes? :o Everything is packed in too closely for that. ;)
-
Paul, I only started the garden 2 years ago, when one gets full I just start another ;D
Will need 18 more large holes in April, I have some roses on order. Mostly OGRs.
I am of the opinion that the more you pack in the less room there is for weeds.
-
Helen,
Your opinion is obviously not shared by my garden..... I pack em in, but there are STILL weeds. Maybe you need to come for a visit and give them a good talking to? ;)
-
Paul, I would be delighted, my consultant's fee would be a pair of round trip business class tickets to Oz, plus accommodation in the finest hotels, plus hmmm a few trips to some Hunter Valley Vineyards.
-
Well, that puts pay to that idea then. ::) The weeds will just have to stay recalcitrant then. :'(
-
Maggie and Jean - Your dog is lovely, we had a spaniel before we got our little Nipper, they are such loving dogs. Thanks for sharing the picture, and we are so glad you've 'come out' into the forum Jean, your expertise will be greatly appreciated.
-
Well, that puts pay to that idea then. ::) The weeds will just have to stay recalcitrant then. :'(
Bummer, I thought I might get a free trip to see my daughters. :(
-
If I could spare that sort of money I could buy a bigger garden!! ;)
-
Hm. I post my seed request, go away for a while, then I return to find that a big Geranium party has erupted in my absence!
I have Yeo's 'Hardy Geraniums', actually. Got it for Christmas. :)
Mark, I will send you a PM shortly on Geranium aristatum. I didn't realize you grew so many Pelargonium; do you have P. sidoides?
Great pictures of Geranium sinense! There are a couple nurseries that sell it over here, but I wanted to try finding seed before I bought any plants. Thanks for mentioning that it doesn't set any seed. :)
James
-
Hi James, you can't turn your back for a minute huh?
I am looking for Yeo's book on Amazon.ca at the moment.
-
You can buy the book very cheaply from an US supplier. I would buy it. Not many photos but packed with info
-
The best nursery for Geraniums and Pelargoniums is Robin Paraer's http://geraniaceae.com/geraniums (http://geraniaceae.com/geraniums)
If you want to get in to species Pelargoniums you need this book before it goes out of print
http://www.amazon.com/Pelargoniums-Gardeners-Species-Hybrids-Cultivars/dp/088192363X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230560571&sr=1-2 (http://www.amazon.com/Pelargoniums-Gardeners-Species-Hybrids-Cultivars/dp/088192363X/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1230560571&sr=1-2)
A set of three books on Pelargoniums now sadly out of print is rising in value fast. They are gettings £300 a set from specialist sellers
-
James I used to grow P. sidoides but it never really interested me
-
Mark, I have just ordered Yeo's book from amazon, I wish I had realized you had found the cheapest price available with your link :-\
-
Oh, well. :'(
-
Anne in Norway is offering Geranium aristatum

Thanks Mark. :)
-
Thanks for the tip, Mark. I really look forward to growing aristatum.
