Under the tree this Christmas I would like to find corms of
1.
2.
3.
-
Crocus boulosii ( http://www.aluka.org/action/showMetadata?doi=10.5555/AL.AP.SPECIMEN.K000320147&pgs=&cookieSet=1 )..... three of them, this would make me irresistible to every Croconut and do wonders for my self esteem..... it would also remind me of my happy childhood days in Libya...... ;D
-
Maggi you already are irresistible - at least for me :-* But don't tell Ian :-X
For me I would like to find:
autranii
niveus - a dark blue form
michelsonii "Turmenian Night"
For Chris I would like:
vallicola - a bag full flowering from August to November
banaticus "Novak White"
scharojanii ssp lazicus
For Tanja...... OK I better stop now ::)
-
1 Healthy
2 Large
3 Easy to Grow
OK - so I'm not playing the game but don't ask me to choose ... there's too many sweets in the shop and they're ALL nice :-* plus the ones I want are mostly the ones I have not seen. There's usually a good reason why a plant is 'rare' in cutivation and one of the best reasons is that it is easy to kill :-[

Crocus boissieri

Me too, and all chocolate-coated.

I suppose that I could lump Crocus along with beer and whisky ???
There is no such thing as a bad beer/whisky/crocus. Just some may be slightly better than others ;)
-
Under the tree this Christmas I along with brown and bronze-shaded tulips would like to find corms of
1. crocus nudiflorus 'Orla'
2. crocus nudiflorus (very dark form)
3. crocus banaticus 'Snowdrift'
-
Thank you Mark, for this thread, because I was just searching on the forum for a name of a Crocus which was shown by You some day this year, and I can't find it!
1. banaticus blue
2. banaticus white
3. that beautiful golden yellow with black anthers. Pleeease help me what was that? ??? ??? ???
-
C. chrysanthus 'Sunspot'. Mine died back much too early this year but depending on how they do next year maybe you can have one
-
:-* :-*
-
1 C. cartwrightianus 'Homeri'
2 C. cartwrightianus 'Homeri'
3 C. cartwrightianus 'Homeri'
So I can get some seed.
-
1. a pot of 'experience'
2. a pot of 'skill'
3. a pot of 'memory'
One and two to help me grow a 'good un'. Three so that when I've grown it I can ID it. ;D

I'm beginning to think Mark has won the lottery and is going to be whizzing around our chimney pots on his private jet-sled delivering much coveted snowdrops and crocuses to fulfil our hearts' desires, so for me SantaMark it's wattiorum, scharojanii and from the unopened cookie jar (can't see the pic but if Maggi likes it that's good enough for me) boulosii.

Yes, Hans, I think Mark thought to hide this from us,[attach=1] but there are many clues for us..... ...Le cave St. Marc..... we know Mark likes bats, and bats live in caves.....[attach=2]....... and we could easily find this place, for it is at the foot of Mont Ventoux... that lovely place of flowers and bicycle racing!![attach=3]
-
Sorry, Mark.... you'll need the patience of a Saint to take this.... I couldn't resist it, either!! :-*
-
;) Maggi,
Look what I have found :

You would have the skill to grow them. :)
-
my wishes for christmas...
C.sieberi sieberi
C.sieberi "George" (J.R.)
C.vernus "Paulus Potter"
-
Maybe the supplier of 'Sunspot' will come forward and say he has single corms potted and ready to mail to arrive in time for Christmas?
-
I nover thought of Mark as saintly, but if the cap fits.....
-
I'd have to think about the other two, but #1 (in no particular order) would be 'Carpathian Wonder'. Just LOVE those markings. Mark's 'Sunspot' would have a pretty good look in, but I would have to think about it for longer just to be sure it didn't displace something else that I "needed" more. ;D
-
Maybe Rob P. could tell us more about this cultivar?
"Selected and originally raised at the nursery (Pottertons), this stunning Crocus has typical bright orange petals which when open reveal a stunning black central style. Fully hardy for trough, raised bed or rockery. February to March. Availablity subject to crop."

Mark et al,
I need to change my christmas tree list now, after a wonderful Aussie forum member sent me a surprise pre-christmas crocus present in the mail. 'Sunspot' has just been bumped up a level now that the top spot I had mentioned above was empty. A very, very, VERY nice surprise to find in the mailbox today.
Thank you!! 8)
-
Paul,
Do I have to deduct from that, that you are now the lucky owner of C. heuffelianus "Carpathian Wonder" ???? :o :o
You lucky....... devil ;D ;D
Being green with envy, I still wish you happy growing... ;D ;D
-
Luc,
Yes, your deduction is correct. I am very, Very, VERY, EXTREMELY chuffed!! ;D
-
Congratulations, Paul, what a gift!
Such true generosity from the Forumists.... warms my heart, I tell you. :)
-
Just wait til you see it it real life. Make sure slug pellets are set around it. It's one of those plants that Peter Korn would say - they eat the plant first, then the pellets and die happy!
-
Mark,
You do realise don't you that Snails and Slugs have an innate means of determining the rarity and "choice-ness" of any plant, making a bee line for those plants which are the rarest and choicest? They'd climb over broken glass, copper wire, and wheat husks to get to my Weldenia. :o They KNOW how much it means to me. ::)
;D
