Hans as a friend I can say you are mad!! Have you tried Graham Duncan at Kirstenbosch in South Africa ? He seems to have grown it. If he has spare ask him if I can have one. Otherwise why not go to Peru and collect one your self.

Well, you know, I like these plants, too, though I do not grow any..... they have all the charm of their relatives and I particularly like the one with the fabulous green and yellow bottle or gourd shaped flowers----- wait a moment..... THAT is surely Urceolina pendula??   Hans, if you find it, please let ME know , too!

If I had any chance to get some space in a glass house here, I would love to try my hand at so many of these Amaryllidaceae ..... 8)

Maggi ,

would you maybe come with us to Peru ???

There is not such a big problem with space in greenhouse : in summer you could grow it outside ....and in winter you take it in your home ( I think it is too cold in the glasshouse of Ian )

Maybe I will drive to "Himmelreich" in next days -this is a small city in the Black Forest -there is a post office which send the wishes to the "christkind" ....

 Hans ,
better to be a little mad ,than dull and boring .
I grow Urceolina peruviana , red - orange bells, flowering early summer , which is now here in Australia .Would U. peruviana be synonymous  with U. pendula??
If that is the case , I could be Christkindl and send you a couple of bulbs .
  please let me know,
        Otto.

Hi Otto !

 ;D ...ja hamma denn scho wieda Weihnacht'n ..... ;D ( Zitat : F.B.)

Many thanks to your friendly offer - I will PM you

To your question :
No - Urcelina pendula is not synonym with Urcelina peruviana ( it is now Stenomesson miniata )
Urceolina pendula is in tribe Eucharideae - Stenomesson miniata in tribe Stenomessae ( together with Phaedranassa,Eucrosia,Rauhia )

And I still do not understand this change.... the two things I have under those names are definitely NOT the same thing.  One never flowers for me and multiplies very well (the S. miniata) and the other flowers most years and has never produced an offset (U. peruviana).  I have not thought to compare leaves.  Also the Stenomesson is virtually evergreen for me, whereas the Urceolina has definite seasons of growth and dormancy.  Given it should be flowering now I really should hunt through that particular wild area of my pot collection and see whether the Urceolina has survived..... I'm just afraid of the tigers etc that might jump me in that area of pots.  :o  The weeds are big enough to hide the tigers, and probably a few rhinos and a hippo or two.  ::)

Paul - I suppose one of your both plants is missnamed .....do you have a pic of the flowering plant ?
....thats maybe easier to find as the pots in your jungle  :o

I'll have a look at home.  To my knowledge it is Urceolina peruviana, at least in the past when I have posted pics of it flowering.  I think I still have pics of it on the computer at home.  I have often heard that Stenomesson aren't easy to flower, and what i have as that certainly haven't been for me, whereas the Urceolina flowers readily, if not every year for me when looked after.  I guess it'll be a disappointment for you Hans if it works out that the S. miniata that i sent you isn't!  :o

Paul ,

I can really say nothing until I see pics of the leaves and flowers .
My idea : send me your both plants and I will find out for you the name ;D

I'm not even sure I can find my Urceolina pot, and given they don't multiply I don't "think" that I'll be sending you the only bulbs I have of something.  It'd be different if you were here in Australia as I would be able to get a plant back from you if they thrived...... so... if you move here to Australia I will happily send them to you.  ;D

Hans,

we should charter a bus in Peru, there are enough mad people. But on the other side, maybe we should go to Australia...

If it is any help here is a shot of my Urceolina peruviana, I haven’t yet come to grips with the change to Stenomesson. Certainly it increases well both naturally and by twin scaling, and if I forget to check it yearly the narcissus fly do their own version of twin scaling for me.
