Lesley showed a picture of a Weldenia in November 2008 in the Southern Hemisphere on the first page. I have never seen this flower before, and I became very fond of it. Now I wonder if there is anyone who knows where I can find this plant, have tried to Goggle, but without finding anyone for sale.
. One more thing, how hardy is it? Grateful for help

I have had this plant for a couple of years now. I have always kept it in the greenhouse so can't comment about it's hardiness outside. That may depend on what part of the world you are in. In the greenhouse it has been easy, flowering well and dying off overwinter to reappear early April. I have gradually increased the size of the pot it is in but have decided to split it in the spring. I bought it from a show somewhere but can't remember the supplier. If you have no luck elsewhere send me a pm and perhaps I can let you have a piece when I split it.

Hello Ulla,
If you can locate it in the northern hemisphere that would be preferable, but if not, I can send it to you when mine goes dormant again.

Lesley and Alan,
Thank you for your generous offer and rapid response. I live in Sweden, four mil east of Gothenburg. It can be quite cold and wet in winter, so my question is if the Weldenia are able to live out there in the winter.

I think the Weldenia would always need to be well drained if you wish to grow it outside. All mine are outside, in pots, raised beds or the open garden. I have to about -6C in winter and the Weldenia is quite happy in that. Our recent winters have tended on the dry side though.

Ulla, looking back through some of my things I am fairly sure I got mine from Ingerswen plants ( www.ingwersen.co.uk ) so you could give them a try.
I saw it growing outside at Wisley this year but whether it stays out all the time is another thing. Lesley's remarks about overwintering are interesting especially about the dry winters as I doubt it could take the average sort of wet conditions I get here even in a well drained spot. I recall that after I bought it I did an internet search and found some info on cultural advice so keep on looking.

Ulla, and All, I remind you of this thread, elsewhere in this Forum, which gives some info on this charming plant: http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=295.0

This page from the Old Forum has a lovely photo : http://www.srgc.org.uk/discus/messages/15/19041.html
and this main page of the Old Forum allows you to make a search for other Weldenia "bits" there....

Ingwersens are sadly no more ... another old and established nursery to bite the dust.

Aberconwy Nursery have it

Thanks to everyone for answers. It seems difficult to find anyone who sells Weldenia, Ingwersen has been closed and Aberconvay writes strictly no mail orders, but I continue to look.

How utterly sad ... :'( one of the first nurseries of alpines I ever visited... :'(

Today arrived my Weldenia plants. I have been searching with the help of Plant Finder, and found Mendle Nursery, they have Weldenia. Have had mail contact with Ann Earnshaw, which is very nice and helpful.

That IS good news, Ulla! Hope they grow well for you, because this is surely a most beauiful plant!
