Title: Culture of Pleione Gelada
Post by: Sempervivum on October 22, 2021, 07:39:02 AM
Dear Pleione experts,
in November 2019 I bought a Pleione Gelada. It grew fairly well but there was some trouble with the flowers: The buds developed but died before opening. Therefore I need some advice. One parent is P. maculata. Is it possible that P. Gelada has to be grown at higher temperature either?
Best regards
Ulrich

Hallo,
I asked the same question Paul Cumbleton and he answered that he experienced the same: P. Gelada is not easy to flower and often the buds die before the flowers open. That's sad as the images look very promising.
Any additional hints are welcome.
Best regards - Ulrich

I persuaded mine to flower last year. The bud began growing in the main greenhouse (cold) but was brought into the house around this time of year and the bud eventually opened into a long-lasting flower. The key is certainly correct temperature management, but whether I can get it right again remains to be seen.
