Is it just my system that has stopped taking these for some reason or has everyone got the same problem??
-
I get a strange message: little squares with the top right corner flipped. If placed the browser over it, then a word explaining the emoji appears. No emoji though.

Fine for me David, I can see you have a wide range of emotions about your computer!
-
The emojis have come up like that on my computer for a long time.
-
Tristan, by any chance are you not using Microsoft Windows 10?
-
Apple Mac David - so no. I generally use Firefox as my browser.
-
My emoticon range turned into those described by Hamperstum some time ago - then just as mysteriously turned back on again.
We can only think it's something prompted by the settings on individual devices when updates happen. Not something we at SRGC can fix, I'm afraid, and it's been happening over a long period now. Not the end of the world though, I hope!! ::)

Maggi, on our Belgium forum the emoticons still work normal. It must come from the forum supplier.

I had literally just started writing this reply to this thread, as I have had the same issue for a long time, when magically the emoticons suddenly all appeared again! Did someone find out what the problem was and 'threw a switch' to solve it, or do other people still see only place-holders?

I still see only place-holders. I am on Windows 10 and use Google as my web browser. I have had other strange computer happenings. When looking at my photos full screen the forward and backward arrows disappeared for a long time which was a bit inconvenient then suddenly reappeared.
I use Windows live mail and for a few months emails from one of my friends could not get through then suddenly after a Windows update all was fine again.
-
I still have no idea why these things are coming and going! I 'm going to work on finding something important to worry about - like the avaliability of quality home-made coffee walnut cake!
-
Do you do mail order Maggi? ;D

Do you do mail order Maggi? ;D
I don't Tristan, but I'm lucky to have a very talented and generous sister in law!

I realized why, but it's hard to explain it... Chrome treats the smileys as "not secure" as they're not linked/embedded with https, and because the forum itself is "secure" (all pages are https) Chrome doesn't want to load the smileys.

Ah, that makes sense Bjornar - browser settings. And sure enough in Firefox, turning on or off https only mode causes emojis to disappear or appear respectively.

I suspect therefore that emojis appearing and disappearing for people are linked to browser updates and the browser manufacturer changing its default settings. If you use a browser that comes as standard with an operating system, like Edge or Safari, then computer system updates may also affect the emojis.
Hope this helps everyone diagnose and fix this problem.

Thanks Tristan, as I thought - down to browser settings , something that individuals can overcome if they wish.
