Hello,
My intention is to use a cold frame as alpine house, for alpines which are sensitive to moisture during winter. For example, Calceolaria uniflora, Androsacea helvetica,... My plants are in clay pots and my plan is to put the pots into a sand bed. In summertime I could open the frame and in winter I could use it as protection against moisture and very low temperatures.
Has anybody any experience whith an similar setup?
Best Regards,
Michael

We've used a similar set-up in the past, Michael. Biggest problem to be aware of is how to keep sufficient airflow round the plants throughout the year. The ability to protect from extremes of temperature while keeping off excess moisture is the main thing for you to tackle. Good covering that can be securely set to remain in position regardless of wind conditions is key.
