It's the height of 'hoop' season here, although the trumpets are racing ahead faster than I'd like.
I have good potfuls of some of our Moon series, since a chipping session has finally come to flowering! I also took some comparison photos so you can see differences between some of the cultivars. The names are with the photos. This batch compare Cyllene, Tellesto, Tethys and Themisto.
-
Here are close-up shots of the flowers of Helene and my favourite, Tethys. Moon L is as yet unnamed. Almost all have a beautiful scent.
-
A really awesome presentation!
Anne, is it possible to add species (hybrid) names to the cultivars shown?
Another question is: Are the differences in heigth stable characteristics
of the resepective cultivars?
Gerd
-
Hi Gerd, Yes, the heights are characteristic.
The parents are:
Themisto - romieuxii Atlas Gold x romieuxii albidus SF110
Moon L - Cantabricus petunioides x romieuxii Atlas Gold
Helene - romieuxii albidus SF110 OP
Tethys, Telesto, Cyllene - cantabricus petunioides x romieuxii albidus SF110
-
Thank you Anne!
I repeat - a superb selection - especially the lower ones!

Hi Anne,
‘’’Thanks’’’ for the wonderful pictures…. I’ve been trying to resist ‘Hoops’ for a while!!
Meanwhile I agree with trumpets being somewhat ahead… Attached the first daff in my (Yorkshire) garden this year (Spring Dawn) about three weeks ahead of the last two years, and I thought it was advanced even then!!

I've been advised that the RHSDaffodil, Snowdrop and Tulip 2019 Yearbook will be published end of this week/early next week after a very long delay.

The bulbs from Aberdeen. Thank you, M&I ;)

Fabulous narcissus collection, Anne :o :o :o :D :D :D 8) 8) 8)
I hope we get to see how you grow these , Tatsuo - if they do as well as N. 'Don Stead' you show today, they will be even better than they appear with Anne! (And that's saying something! )
-
There are incredible things here :o
Anne many bulbs in the pot??
-
I think the pot of Tethys has 47 bulbs in it! I would like to see how these grow for Tatsuo. :)
-
At the moment...
Narcissus ‘Kalyke’ has just started to open its elegant flowers :D
N. ‘Themisto’ is comming soon ;)
N. ‘Tethys’ seems no flowers this season :(
-
This narcissus came from 2014 SRGC Seed Exchange labeled as “2802 Narcissus bulbocodium pallidus, ex SBL 237”
I really like this almost flat disk like flowered seedling. It looks a form of N. romieuxii than N. bubocodium var. pallidus for me, though ::)
Thank you to the seed donnor :-*
-
HA! ;D They look so cute!. If I planted them 10cm deep, maybe mine would look as nice....no, maybe not.

I would be lucky I'm living at 35 degrees noth latitude, almost same as their native area - Morocco and southern Spain ;)

Narcissus cantabricus var. petunioides (ex. Van Tubergen) x N. romieuxii
A seedling, bred and selected by me :)
-
Superb!
-
Narcissus ‘Themisto’ :)
-
Narcissus ‘Themisto’ :)
Perhaps it's because it's Valentine's Day, but I see these wonderful flowers from Tatsuo and I think tiny wedding bouquets 8) ;D
-
Happy Valentine's Day, Maggi :-*
-
Narcissus cantabricus ‘Clusii’ x N. cantabricus var. petunioides
I have to divide these seedlings into single bulbs and select flat coronas from parabolic ones next season. Fortunately they are far more vigorous than their pollen parent “petunioides”.
I donated the seeds collected from same parents to the SRGC Seed Exchange 2013. Hoping someone have already got flat corona seedlings ;)
-
Narcissus ‘Themisto’ :)
I should just send my whole collection to Japan! If only we could grow them like that. :o :o
-
Narcissus bulbocodium subsp. obesus
-
That's nice and early, Yann. My obesus are always much later.
-
I am a big fan of obesus, it's a beautiful little thing. Grew some from SRGC seed 3 or 4 years ago, it is the only bulbocodium type I have found that seems to reliably grow and flower for me outdoors here in North Wales. Ordered a bunch more seed this year, I am hoping to get a colony going.
-
Narcissus obesus is out again here in Central Portugal after a VERY mild and rainy winter.
Each year they come earlier. Very pretty in the rain, which they don't mind at all.
-
Great to see them in the wild!
This is a nice lemon reverse bicolour unnamed seedling getting to know me again after 3 years growing on from chipping.

The daffy hybrid house is really getting going now - very exciting!

I'm ready receiving them, Anne ;D ;D ;D
So lovely daffs not only your reverse bicolour seedling but Brian's :D
If I were in your glass house I could stay there all day :)
-
Narcissus triandrus var. alejandrei x N. cantabricus var. petunioides
The first flower from seed :) Bred and sowed in 2015.

Hello Tatsuo, sorry if I have donated seeds under this name, it is diferent species from N. triandrus, the correct name is Narcissus iohannis
Thanks, Rafa. The seed parent of my hybrid came from JJA Seeds under the name as “707.380 : NARCISSUS TRIANDRUS var. ALEJANDREI” in 2007. Those seeds were collected by you in their habitat, exactly.
I've already posted the seed parent information and some pictures in another thread in this forum.

yes, you are right Tatsuo, but it is necessary to update this name as it is a good species different from Narcissus triandrus since F. Casas did a new revision of Ganymedes section. You can read it here https://bibdigital.rjb.csic.es/viewer/1526032/?offset=#page=1&viewer=thumb&o=bookmarks&n=0&q=

A day to photograph some of our miniature daffodils. Some are flowering for the first time after chipping, so it's nice to have a decent potful until some go to new homes in the summer :)
Deryn and Mica are newly registered.
-
Some more - never a show when you need one.
KS/M/1/2007 is a hybrid from Keira bulbs.
-
Last few. Papa Snoz is also from Keira.
Speedie, Little Racer and Wee Nod from Brian Duncan.
-
Anne this is a wonderful display, :o

-
Narcissus asturiensis From SRGC seed. A tiny plant.
-
Narcissus bulbocodium var. pallidus, JJA 696.600
As it comes from Morocco, it's not any more a bulbocodium but more a romieuxii or, if I believe http://www.ville-ge.ch/musinfo/bd/cjb/africa/details.php?langue=fr&id=156041, (http://www.ville-ge.ch/musinfo/bd/cjb/africa/details.php?langue=fr&id=156041,) Narcissus peroccidentalis.
What ever its name, as Yann said, a stuning plant ;D
-
Please can anybody help with the identification of this Narcissus from Sardinia

Here, bicolor to pale mutant N. fernandesii
Very pretty! Not a hybrid?
-
yes it is a huge group of hybrids, and very few pure plants from graellsii and bulbocodium subspespecies
-
Narcissus x carpetanus nothosubsp. nova
(Narcissus bublcodium subsp. bulbocodium x Narcissus bulbocodium subsp. graellsii)
I love their flatter corona :D (not virus!!!)

We had this pan of Narcissus Tiny Bubbles on the bench at Kendal and it's looking even better now. We first saw it at our local Horticultural show in Ramsbottom because they have a section for the Daffodil Society. Just 3 stems in a vase but I thought they looked good. It is a x between N. cyclamineus and N. jonquilla there are two or even three flowers to a stem and it has a lovely perfume.
-
Two points about 'Tiny Bubbles' that resonate with me, Shelagh, first, two or three flowers to a stem and second, nicely scented. Sounds good!
-
Looks good too!
