GARDENING SCOTLAND 2019
Show Dates: Friday 31st May to Sunday 2nd June
The Club will have a stand and display at Gardening Scotland 2019, at the Ingliston Showground in Edinburgh. We plan to have a similar educational exhibit to that in 2018, with a display of plants and troughs, although other ideas are welcome.
As usual we need Club members to help.
Daily Set-up: Monday 27th to Thursday 30th May
First, Set-up. We would appreciate help with assembling the stand and setting out the plants, from Monday 27th till Thursday 30th May. Setting up involves building the stand, carrying plants and materials, arranging the plants, writing labels, as well as setting out the seeds and information tables. It is essential that the stand is tidied up by removing dead leaves and flowers and other tasks so as to bring it up to the highest standard.
Second, Show Days. We need volunteers to man the stand on the three show days (Friday to Sunday). This involves engaging with the public, handing out leaflets, talking about the Club, local groups and the benefits of membership. There will be questions about the plants, usually growing conditions or where they can be bought. All the seed packets are labelled. You don't need to know everything because other members are there to help you.
There is a prearranged rota and volunteers choose their own time slots. We would welcome some new members helping this year. It is good fun and an excellent opportunity to meet fellow Club members at Scotland's top flower show.

This year the Gardening Scotland Show celebrates its 20th year. SRGC is proud to have participated in Gardening Scotland for 20 years - winning many gold medals & some best floral exhibits over the years.
This year SRGC features in some of the promotional material that Gardening Scotland is putting out ahead of the show ... this has been posted on Twitter and Facebook.....

Thinking ahead to 2021, will the Perth International Rock Garden Conference co-incide with the Gardening Scotland Show in that year? Or will there be a significant gap?

If Gardening Scotland continues at the same dates, that is the end of May, then there will be a gap, since the 2021 Conference will take place 08-11 May 2021.

As usual, we are looking for enthusiastic and helpful volunteers to help man the SRGC Stand. I am making up the rota for people to man the stand on Show Days, and am hoping that you might like to come on one of the days?
As usual, there are 3 time slots on each of the Show days Friday 31st May, Sat 1st June and Sun 2nd June. These are 9am-12noon, 12noon-2.30pm, and 2.30pm-5pm. Currently the Friday lunchtime and afternoon slots are fully booked, but I am looking for helpers for all the other slots.
Enthusiasm is more important than botanical knowledge, and it is mainly a matter of talking to visitors, selling our surplus and fine seed packets and trying to stop them touching or damaging the plants on our stand. There will be others on the stand too, so you will not be alone!
I can also provide a Show Day entry ticket to get you into the Show free. Send me a PM if you would like to help us out.

The beautiful Celmisia semicordata (?) alone would be worth a visit. ;-)
