Looking forward to seeing you there and to receiving entries. Hope the weather's kinder than it is today! Lots of deliceous home baking too.......
-
Is there any parking at the church or somewhere nearby?
-
Hello Alan - there is limited parking at the church- usually all taken early by exhibitors and nursery folk with lots to unload - there is street parking all around the area, however and it is possible to drop off and pick up less mobile visitors near the entrance.
Hope this helps.
-
Thanks Maggi - that's good to know.
-
Hilary and Graeme at Rumbling Bridge Nursery are under snow - again - but they're still going to have good plants for sale on Saturday - here's a selection.....

Not only bad news for nursery folk - it's not good for farmers either - or their stock:

Our dear Show reporter to the Form, Stan da Prato, is "off work" at the moment - recovering from a hip operation ,so gleaning show pix from today from the SRGC Facebook page - these from Ian the Christie Kind.
Most of Ian's photos taken while the plants were still being staged - but Ian did comment that the entries were a bit down. Just Stan being away means a huge drop in entries, for a start. :'( Get well soon, Stan!!

Sue Simpson Watt says
"Really showing off here! A once only event at the Edinburgh Show with some friends absent and bad weather affecting the number of plants available!"
Sue is too modest, this great "haul" of prizes is richly deserved for her superb plants - days like that make the early morning starts seem easy!
[attachimg=1]
Well done Sue! :-*

Can I just say a hearty thankyou to everyone who exhibited, helped and supported our show yesterday. A combination of the inclement spring weather and some absent friends meant that entries were almost half of what we have had in the last 7 years. Nevertheless, there were plenty of high quality plants on show. In the sbsence of Stan's usual report here are the prize winners:
Forrest Medal: Cyril Lafong Trillium rivale 'Purple Heart' - his 59th overall and 10th at Edinburgh
Certificates of Merit:
Jane & Alan Thomson for Hepatica 'Millstream Merlin'
Dave Millward for Narcissus obesus 'Lee Martin'
Cyril Lafong for Saxifraga Hybrid - a really compact cushion, completely smothered in small white flowers; a chance seedling from 'Coolock Gem'
Nick Boss for Dionysia archibaldii - in tufa gravel - quite an achievement
Alf Evans trophy for best Ericaceae excluding Rhododendron: Stan da Prato Calluna 'Stockholm Skyline'
R E Cooper Bhutan Drinking Cup for best Asiatic Primula: Ian Christie for Primula odontocalyx - the white form
K C Corsar Challenge Trophy for best American or European Trophy: Tom Green Primula 'Clarence Elliott'
Midlothian Vase for best Rhododendron: Sue Simpson R 'Lucy Lou'
Henry Tod Carnethy Quaich for best bulb corm or tuber: Dave Millward Narcissus obesus 'Lee Martin'
Kilbryde Cup best plant in a pot not exceeding 17.5 cm diameter: Jim Watson Dionysia 'Bernd Wetzel'
Bill Mackie Quaich for best Saxifraga: Cyril Lafong Saxifraga Hybrid
Reid Rose Bowl most points in Section I: Sue Simpson
Alpines 2001 trophy for best cushion plant (the Dinosaur coprolite trophy): Sue Simpson Anisotome imbricata var. imbricata - a quite magnificent specimen in immaculate condition
Boonslie cup for trough garden: Watt Russell
Midlothian Bowl for best plant in section II: Mike Hicks Primula elatior
Henry Archibald Rose Bowl (winner class 2) Sue Simpson
Elsie Harvey Memorial Trophy (winner class 3 - 3 pans new or rare) Cyril Lafong
Primula allionii 'Janet Burrow', Saxifraga x dinninaris 'Blackthorn', Primula hirsuta subsp. valcuvianensis 'Renate',
A O Curle memorial Trophy (winner class 5) Cyril Lafong

Bronze Medal for most points section II: Annelie Banks
Gold Award to RBG Edinburgh for their display of bulbs

Bronze Medal for most points section II: Annelie Banks
Good to hear of a new name winning in Section II - well done, Annelie!
Has anyone any photos of her entries?
-
Reading on FaceBook of Jean Horsburgh being delighted with her success in SEctionII as well - I do hope someone has photos of these to share. Without the folks gaining experience in Section II there will be a very poor outlook for shows in the future - these folks need - and deserve - much credit (- and camera time!) to encourage them and keep the shows vibrant.
-
Two plants that made the show thanks to Watt finding some space in his little car and one that did not as Rhododendron dauricum Hokkaido form was too tall. The lower growing white rhodo is Lucy Lou said by Glendoick to be more frost resistant in flower than Snow Lady -they look very similar- though my Snow Lady is even further behind this spring. All my rhodos grow outside. Lucy Lou is nearer full out than on Saturday. Also one of the new Calluna cvs raised on the continent for foliage effect.

Maggie here are some of the Pleione photos I took at Edinburgh 7.4.18.
