I see lots of temptation for the wallet in just these two stands!
Temptation indeed Maggi, I certainly shed a few pounds today.....
A little thin on the show benches today, as only to be expected given the weather forecast and the recent severe cold spell, but there were some cracking plants exhibited today with a good show of colour in the hall.
Thank you to all the exhibitors, nurseries and visitors who braved the snow to be with us today. I hope you all had a safe journey home.

A quick post of what I hope are all the winners -another of the Farrer crocus then Don Peace's medal winning small 6 pan which included the Duncan Lowe award for the best 19cmpot ; he also took the raised from seed award for a Corydalis and a merit cert for Primula Arduaine and not surprisingly the Hollett trophy for most first points in the open section.
-
Tommy Anderson took the medal for six large pots as well as a merit cert for one of them, George Young took the Kirby Cup for best foliage plant and merit certs were awarded for the Wrights' Callianthemum, the Smethursts' Hepatica- a top medal winner here in the past- and Darren Sleep's Narcissus.
-
Another merit cert went to Bob Worsley's Hepatica acutiloba, Kath Rimmer took the David Mowle award for best bulb in sections 2 & 3, Dave Morris won the Michael Roberts Trophy for section 2 while Philip Adderley won the Reginald Kay trophy for section 3. Finally a special award was given to Brian Burrow on his birthday.
More snaps tomorrow.

That last plant in the previous post is from Brian Burrow - surely it cannot be Brian's 70th Birthday today??!!
Many happies, Brian!!

I'm glad to report that Rob and Jackie Potterton have arrived home safely after that unpleasant drive in the snow from Kendal to Caistor.

People doing the work to make the show happen
-
The show closed a little early to let people get home on deteriorating roads. The breakdown was even quicker than usual many hands making light work. Having finished posting my snaps I look forward to reading other contributions.
-
Well done, Stan - you continue to amaze me- you attend the show , supporting it with your plants, take the photos, get packed up and home again - often thro' nasty weather - and before we know it you have a full pictorial report for us here!
No small feat for all concerned to get a show of such quality in such a week - I think Alan Oatway and all of the Show Team at Kendal can feel VERY pleased with themselves. 8)

As usual way behind others in posting a few pictures and in my usual style no scenes or pictures of folk, just plants in close up with exhibitors names and classes. As has already been said the show was a bit less in plant numbers than some years but the quality was still top class, a few exhibitors that usually were present did not attend because of the weather forecast, as it happens, from my part the weather did not interfere at all and, thanks to an excellent decision to close the show early, I was home just 10 minutes before the snow came down hard, my car had several inches on it in less than half an hour...if it had been normal closing time I would have been driving home through it.
Don Peace had another fantastic day bringing many plants of high quality and these earned him many red stickers and so the Hollett Trophy for the most points in the Open classes. Among his exhibits were
Primula 'Arduaine' in class 3, earned a Certificate of Merit' (C of M)
Iris 'Frank Elder' (26)
Saxifraga oppositifolia (Icelandic Form) 72
Corydalis 'Lentune Rouge' won him the AGS Seed Distribution Award for this year
-
To continue with Don Peace he also won an AGS Medal for the small 6 Class 51, the exhibits were Primula allionii BB 99 16 1, Primula 'Arduaine', Corydalis kuznetzovii, Iris winnowgradowii, Dionysia schummellii and Saxifraga oppositigolia Icelandic Form.....a really nice exhibit . This exhibit also had the Duncan Lowe award for the Best Pan less than 19cm but I cant remember which it was!!!
Dionysia aretiodes x bazoftica in 8 from David Morris
Primula 'Fritz Kummert' from Frank Hoyle (12)
Iberis pruitii from Tom Green (14) ...even bought one from a trade stand as I had lost my one
Callianthemum kernerianum from Wilma and Jim Wright (16), not so often seen now, earned a C of M.
-
Hepatica 'Blue Sandan' from stalwart supporters of AGS and SRGC Shows Brian and Shelagh Smethurst (15). They also
Hepatica 'Gyose' in 18 which earned a C of M
Corydalis cinteara from Frank and Barbara Hoyle (17)
Dionysia viscidula x freitagii from Mark Childerhouse (2)
Narcissus henriquesii from Darren Sleep (17), another C of M
-
Tommy Anderson had all of 1 mile to travel to get to the show so was feeling in good fettle, even more so with some fine plants on the bench including an AGS Medal in Class 1 in which
Saxifraga 'Cumulus' and
Callianthemum anemononoides were two fine plants
Tommy also had a lovely large pan of
Saxifraga 'Allendale Ghost' in 19
I saw a picture of Sue Simpson earlier, only saw her at the end of the show, hope she was not infectious!!. She had a nice 3 pan in the Large Saxifrage class 19
and these were Saxifraga 'Auguste Renoir, S x poluanglica and S. 'Allendale Elf'
Fritillaria chitralensis from Cyril Lafong (23)
-
Primula megaseifolia x juliae from Tom Green (4)
Hepatica nobilis var japonica from Chris Lilley (28) and
Hepatica acutiloba from Bob Worsley (30) another Cof M for the show
The Farrer Medal was won by a great pan of
Crocus vernus from Vic and Jan Aspland (29). They also had
Fritllaria kittaniae in 79, another Red Stcker
-
It was Brian Burrows birthday on the day though he tried to keep it quiet his friends made sure we all new and to boot he had not a bad day show wise
Primula allionii BB 03/3/8
Narcissus watieri (80).
Many of his Primula grown over the years were on display and
Primula 'Henry Burrow' from Frank Hoyle (60) was a fine example
Celmisia hectori from Alan Furness (39) was the won the silver class and
Ozothamnus coralloides from George Young was judged the best foliage plant at the show and so won the Kirby Cup (40)
-
George who was selling Iberis pruitii, thought Toms plant was fabulous and would have loved one?
-
Ian and Maria Leslie made the long trip up from North Wales, I hope they got home safely, they brought a lovely
Corydalis macrocentra to class 69, earning a nice red Sticker
A plant that really attracted me was
Primula odontocalyx from Tom Green (56), would like a bit of that
Colchicum kesselringii from Alan Furness (76)
Iris nusairiensis from Lionel Clarkson (81)
Pieris nana 'Redshanks' from Ian Kidman (82)
-
Last couple of pictures
Hepatica 'Orihime' from Bob Worsley (70)
dionysia aretiodes 'Bevere' from Frank Dobson (108)
All in all a good show the way the weather was, lets hope for spring coming later in the new week
-
Lawrence, I can't remember who I bought the Iberis from, I will look at the label in the morning and post the info then
-
My sincerest thanks to the photographer for their good work they have done.
It is good to see these perfect plants, our weather is a nightmare!
-
Had a phonecall from John Bunn today, due to accidents on the A66 he and his passenger Barry Winter didn't get home till midnight almost 9 hours after they left the Show.
