Well that's the first of the bookings coming in and we have SOLD OUT of all the single rooms in the first post  :o so there are no single rooms left at the Atholl Palace
But we have a plan there are a number of other accommodation providers we can sort for you BUT if you are hoping to get a single room please contact me soon  :)
Pitlochry will be very busy in October due to the Enchanted Forest light show which attracts over 60,000 people over about 5 weeks and the accommodation price s go up!!

The show entries are coming in! If you're coming to the Discussion Weekend and wondering whether that plant will be ready or not, bring it along anyway! It's always a joy to see the different range of plants that are performing at this end of the season. Show entries can be sent to me at perth.show@fireflyuk.net and late entries will be accepted. you can find the show schedule at: http://files.srgc.net/show_info/2018SRGCdwe.pdf (http://files.srgc.net/show_info/2018SRGCdwe.pdf) Staging 4-5.30pm on Friday and 8-9am on Saturday. Look forward to seeing you all and your plants in Pitlochry!

Only3 of us braved the elements to visit Cluny Gardens.  It was worth it for the autumn colours. Just a sample by way of Acers and an unusual balsam which John says nobody has a name for.  It seeds around, he says, but surplus are easily pulled out.

Award winners. Some nice  plants in  section 2 where Maggie Duguid won the East Lothian Cup for the best plant with her  Saxifraga  Fumiko while David & Liz Livermore  took an SRGC bronze medal for most points. In the Open section Roma Fiddes  won the Jim Lever Memorial trophy as well as a certificate of merit  for a very good Cyclamen mirabile. Margaret & Henry Taylor  received the AGS Ulster Group Quaich a travelling award  which this year went to the best foliage plant - the  grey leaved  Senecio leucophyllus.  George Sevastopulo was given a well deserved gold medal  for a very large display  on the Burren in the west of Ireland

By once again  bringing   most plants I retained   the Mary Bowe trophy for most points.   I also came home with  the East Lothian Trophy for class 3 three alpines -this year all gentians- the Peel cup for the best three gentians, the Logan Home Trophy for a mini garden and the Mowat Trophy  for the best conifer a dwarf Japanese  larch now  in autumn colour which  to my delighted surprise also received  the Forrest medal.

Hope you managed to get your planting done Angie, might take us a little while to get ours done ... too much temptation on the sales area  ::)

Darren and I would also like to add our own thanks to the organisers for a fabulous weekend.

After missing several years it was great to be back amongst friends, old and new, once again, and whilst there were a number of absent friends they were not forgotten with a glass was raised to them during the conference dinner.

Inspired by the excellent and informative lectures we have come away with a wish list of things to grow and places to visit.

Susan (and Darren of course) x

Two sets of excellent  photos competed  in  the holiday photo competition won by Liam & Joan McCaughey who had visited the  Gargano peninsula in Southern Italy  to photograph  the orchids while a very close runner up was David Livermore  with photos taken in the Russian Caucasus. These few snaps do not do the originals justice but they  were certainly  appreciated over the weekend   by the weekenders.
