Even though I'm member of SRGC since 2014, I decided to write my first post today to share these photos of Hippeastrum idimae that bloomed after exactly 2 years from seed I had from Hans as Hippeastrum Cardoso Moreira

Thank you Luca  :)

I will try to make seeds for distribution

The pollination of my Hippeastrum striatum/petiolatum was succsessful ...fruit are ripening  :D

From the Hippeastrum striatum Saltao is flowering only one clone ...but I hope my self pollination will work

Looking good, Michael - always kept outside or do you take them in for winter?

Hi Maggie, these are in pots and I put under cover if lots of rain is forecast. They have done very well this year. I did put a bit more effort into feeding them when I fertilised the clivia at the same time.

Hippeastrum aulicum are blooming in the greenhouse.  These were grown from seed from Mauro Peixoto in Brazil.  They all seem to be trying to bloom at once.  The individual bulbs are producing flowers that vary in form from plant to plant.

The bulbs that bloomed first are starting to produce seed pods, so there must be some bugs flying around in the greenhouse that I  haven't seen.

Very nice Jim

How many years from seed to flower?

Regards

I'm not keeping such detailed records anymore.  I will have to poke around in those pots for plastic labels that have notes such as first bloom date.  I'll guess the time to first bloom from seed runs 5 to 10 years, depending on species and origins.
