Title: Galanthus 'Green Tear'
Post by: Yanik Neff on July 29, 2017, 02:05:19 PM
I've been looking for this for quite some time. Can someone help me out? I can offer 'Elizabeth Harrison' if needed.

I had this snowdrop myself for only a few months.  I got it as a small dormant bulb and so it remained, having vanished when I investigated why it had failed to appear in winter.  It was originated by Gert Jan van der Kolk in 2000 and it ought to be more readily available by now but Avon Bulbs, who were propagating it, had their entire stock stolen http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/plants/10601297/The-mad-world-of-snowdrop-collectors.html (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/gardening/plants/10601297/The-mad-world-of-snowdrop-collectors.html)

I believe Gert Jan sells a few on eBay each year and there may be one or two other reputable sellers of it there now.  I think the going rate is around £100, possibly less by now.  But isn't a CITES permit required to send snowdrop bulbs to Switzerland?  That's what it says here https://www.rareplants.co.uk/product/galanthus-green-tear/ (https://www.rareplants.co.uk/product/galanthus-green-tear/)

Thank you for your reply Alan. You are right, I always have to get an export cites permit for my bulbs from the EU. That's just how it is...
