Specialist nurseries attending are Ardfearn, Rumbling Bridge and Askival

-
Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday... Graeme Butler of Rumbling Bridge Nursery is going to be setting up an Auricula Theatre - a feast for the eyes!
David asks me to advise you that 'In addition to all of this we have arranged for the Nairn Beer and Music Festival to be held over the weekend, Thursday to Monday. Well worth visiting if you are into that sort of thing. http://www.braevalhotel.co.uk/bandstandbeerfestival.asp'. (http://www.braevalhotel.co.uk/bandstandbeerfestival.asp'.)
Meanwhile Stan has already sent in 33 entries for the show - anyone up for beating that?
As always there will be amazing cakes and home bakes, I'm sure I can hear Angie drooling from here :)
If you actually manage to drag yourself away from the show and down to the west beach you may well spot a few of our much loved Moray Firth Bottlenose Dolphins passing through on their way to feed off Chanonry Point.
-
Hope it's a great day as usual, Carol -and that you have a quiet day just watching proceedings from a comfy chair!
-
Definitely going to be sitting back and letting others do the work Maggi, I'm not going along to the set up on Friday afternoon at all! Doubt I'll be there for the whole day on Saturday but will do my best to be there for a while. Wouldn't live feed web cams be great :)
-
We are organised now , pick up the girls early and off to Nairn, so looking forward to the cakes oh I meant to say the show ;D
Can't believe Stan has all those plants ready for the show, good on him . Looking forward to the day.
Angie :)

The plants are mostly small ones as I now have trouble with larger pots. Before and after loading snaps attached - now off to drive north.

Forrest medal went to David Millward's plant Saxifraga pubescens 'Snowcap'. David tells me the benches are looking good and lots of visitors to the show - hope someone takes a few photos ;D
-
Indeed they did. First David's well proportioned saxifrage that took the Forrest then his Cyclamen rhodium which won the Askival bulb trophy. The Culloden Cup for best primula was won by Francis and Margaret Higgins Auricula Black Jack; they who also won the Weir Shield for best plant from a local member with Erigeron Canary Bird and a merit certificate for Bolax gummifera.
-
Ian and Carol Bainbridge received a merit certificate for their Clematis marmoraria while in a very good section 2 another merit certificate went to Jim McPhie's Rhododendron Egret. The Dunbarney Salver for best plant in section 2 was won by Colinne Souter with her Morisia while the Roslyn-Shirras Tankard for most section 2 points was won by Jimmy Macdonald.
-
Graeme and Hilary Butler from Rumbling Bridge nursery mounted a most attractive Auricula Theatre which received a gold medal. Back in the open section I received the Highland Trophy for bringing most plants and the Grouse Salver for Rhododendron kaempferi hybrid Connie.
-
Now for a round of the section 1 benches. Classes 1 and 2 are for 6 and 3 pans respectively. Also the class for a rare plant with notes.
-
Scottish plants; African plants; Asiatic plants; Australasian Plants; European plants, North then South American plants finally plants from a named country here Scotland and Japan.
-
foliage plants then hardy succulents then cushions then seed raised plants.
-
Saxifrages, primulas, androsaces, apiaceae, ranuncs.
-
into various bulbs, aroids, gentian, asters, lewisias, berberis and gesneriads
-
Rhododendrons, other erics, conifers and shrubs then ferns and an impressive pan of orchids
-
a few more bulbs, plants not otherwise catered for then mini gardens
-
An interesting exhibit within the Higgins' 2 pan Asiatic class was the rare Androsace elatior which coincidentally was one of the Duncan Lowe drawings the Bainbridges had on display. Apparently Lowe did his drawing as a reconstruction presumably not having a specimen available.

Now a look round section 2 which is always strong at the Highland show

Finally retiring show secretary David Shaw celebrates the end of another very successful Highland SRGC event.
-
Thanks for the pics Stan hope to see you at Glasgow ;)
-
Hi Stan thank you so much for all the photos, it was really hard sitting at home yesterday and knowing the show was going on... at least now I can get a flavour of the whole thing! Next year we'll be able to simply exhibit without all the worries be a show secretary produces.
To all of you who put plants on the bench, helped at the show, judged at the show and all the folk who came through the door thank you for making the show the success it was :D
-
Great show, plants and CAKES were lovely, thanks to everyone for making it a very pleasant day out. Everytime I look around the benches I wonder how folks manage it, such healthy plants.
Wasn't going to buy any plants but those nurseries always have something that catches my eye.
Look forward to next years show.
Angie :)
