Iris afghanica:

They look all healthy and pretty nice. Fermi i've used a NPK 5.5.60, same usage on my terrestrial orchids and they also look very dark this year. So i guess the fertiliser should have an effect on the plants. I use it at 1/2 of the prescribed dose.

Super selection John.
Pinched this from Panayoti Kelaidis on Facebook......
"Iris gatesii, blooming today for John Baumfalk, fabulous irisarian in Newton, Kansas--emailed to me today! I grew this once--the flower is immense, and the coloration is heavenly, don't you think? "

Here are some more of my aril irises -after dusting down:
Iris kirkwoodiae -I changed this from kirkwoodii to kirkwoodiae as fermi has advised me that the Iris is named after Mrs Grace Kirkwood.

Sorry!
You are right John.
I re-checked the pot -the plant is labelled Iris hoogiana Antiope.

In view of the fact that the July 2017 edition of The Rock Garden will be a little later this time can I remind you that Plant World(Holland) will have their Oncocyclus List available soon. Email oncocyclus.iris@gmail.com
-
Here is my first oncocyclus to flower for 2017, PT0426, a complex interspecific hybrid onco by Pat Toolan. This plant was among the first lot of seed I embryo cultured in Feb 2015, and It's my first time flowering it. I'm impressed! It's a thing of beauty and the flowers are very large.
-
Today I had a shot at photographing the oncocyclus in door (studio style). Here are the results.

Can anyone please recommend any good books regarding the cultivation of these Iris?
-
Hi Lawrence. Brian Mathew's "The Iris" has good suggestions for growing in England.
You could also contact Peter Taggert here on SRGC, he is knowledgeable on them.
I grow many here in Kansas USA but my methods wouldn't work in humid England.
