Stunning pictures of nice species. I am still waiting for Juno planifolia to come into flower. But it is still too cold here.

Thanks for posting those lovely pictures of the Juno Irises.

Steve , as always brilliant photos of some very beautiful Junos . Yes Tony Hall (ex Kew Bot. Garden ) is of the same opinion :
I .rudolphii = I. narbutii .

Thanks Otto.
I'll change the rudolphii label to narbutii.
Iris rosenbachiana -ex Tovil Dara, Tajikistan.

Beautiful photos and plants Steve, as usual.
I've had my first attempt at embryo rescue on something other than an onco; I. planifolia, seed courtesy of Otto. It appears to be working; the plantlets are growing and developing normally albeit slower than the oncos done at the same time. I'm not sure if there's much advantage to this technique applied to Junos, but it's an interesting proof of concept and could be useful in the case of very precious or rare seed.

Thank you Bulbissime. Mine also originated from Armenia and I doubted that it was I.caucasica, but wasn't sure what it should be named.

Hi ebbie. Have corrected spelling. It is a hybrid of Leonid Bondarenko.

The first Juno in the garden to flower this year:
Iris (Juno) planifolia
Originally grown from seed from Tony Hall.

Thanks David. It's cheery at this time of year but prone to virus.

No Junos in flower here going into summer but I am thrilled that the Juno seed from Oron Peri received in September, has germinated well. Iris aucheri and three accessions of Iris palaestina are well up, a total so far of 34 seeds of 41. No complaints there. Having used the forced germination technique for the onco seed (IT WORKS!), I soaked the junos for 2 days the took the meerest smidgin of material from the germination end, and also scraped off some of the brown skin from that area. Junos usually do germinate reliably but often after several months or even a year or more while these have taken about a month. I did the same for Iris vartani, a reticulate species but nothing there yet.
