Last year Beechgrove TV filmed at Dunblane and this became part of their first 2014 broadcast in April. This gave the club useful publicity and went so well they have asked to film at another SRGC show so will be at Kincardine. The presenter will be George Anderson who did the interviews at the club stand at Gardening Scotland over the last three years. As show secretary Sam and his team will have their hands full with the show I am acting as liaison person and will be with the film crew throughout the day. Obviously the prize wining plants will be filmed as well as other interesting items e.g. alpine troughs. If anyone has a plant with an interesting story e.g. where it was collected from, how it was bred, please let me know either in advance or on the day. Similarly with any other questions. The programme is again likely to go out in the first week of April.

"George Anderson (Beechgrove Garden BBC Scotland) talking to Nick Courtens (left) from Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, Vail, Colorado, who is on a study tour of the UK sponsored by The Diana Aitchison Fund SRGC." photo from Julia Corden
Nick Courtens ( see his blog here (http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=12934.0)) attended the SRGC Show at Kincardine today - here he is chatting with George Anderson
( formerly of RBGE) now a presenter of the Beechgrove Garden TV programme - the show was being filmed for a future programme.

Julia Corden was interviewed on camera - she was explaining about the George Forrest Award

Alan Gardner won the Bronze medal for most points in Section II - the Fife County Trophy for Section II and here is his winning six pan Jubilee B class entry - what a successful day for Alan - congratulations to him!

Thanks to Alan Gardner for another pic- this time of Cyril Lafong's Fritillaria gibbosa which was awarded the Glassford Sprunt award (for the best pot of bulbs in a 19cm pan)
[attachimg=1]
Glassford Sprunt is a former SRGC President who has had numerous show success himself over the years. Glassford gives freely of his time to the Club in many capacities such as preparing the Index not only for 'The Rock Garden' journal, but also for the IRG each month.
-
.....was it not F. gibbosa seen here as part of the wining small six pan. Cyril's Trillium won both the top award and the trophy for best non European plant. Best European plant and runner up for the Forrest was Tom Green's impressive pot of a red form of Corydalis solida. Show secretary Sam again took the best Primula with P. allionii Mary Berry. Your correspondent won the Carnegie trophy for most points by bringing most plants.
-
another view of Alan's successful entries in Section B. Then a view of the RBGE display, the gold medal as well as individual merit awards for Narcissus bulbocodium and a very attractive white Narcissus x munozii garmendiae. Frazer Henderson mounted a display about hyacinths which was awarded a silver medal card.
-
Watt Russell received a merit certificate for Asarum splendens. His fish box trough is a regular at the early shows and a good example of how to do these. Then a snap of the man himself with two more of the colourful bulb benches.
-
Some plants round the show starting with a very nice cyclamen in section B then some of the open section with hardy succulent then primulas in variety- the big pot of P. Arduaine went forward for consideration for one of the awards.
-
and more - many from Cyril, some of the Ranuncs, 2 trios of Dionysias finally Saxifrages.
-
A wonderful display. Many thanks to Stan for the photographic tour.
-
The show has a section for art and photos. There was also a nice floral display in Class 100.
-
Class A attracted five entries so 30 small pots of colour on the bench. The first view along the bench includes Sandy's bulbs which I do not have a close up of.
-
mainly people
-
Finally the caption competition
-
Great photo report, thanks Stan! I'm pleased to see a lot of excellent bulbs on display there.
Here are the original images for some of the photographic entries:
Galanthus reginae-olgae, Langada Pass
Central Taygetos Mountains with Crocus hadriaticus
Montage of different leaf forms of Cyclamen graecum found throughout the Southern Peloponnese
-
Stan - thank you for the correction to my error with the Frit. gibbosa in an earlier post - I have corrected it.
Well done to all the prize winners and indeed every exhibitor who contributed to this fine show of well-grown plants.
-
Congratulations, Stan on your own show success yesterday. Stan has brought us, once more, a most exciting overview and record of the show. And all this on "the morning after" a day when he staged a large number of fine plants himself, liaised with the TV crew for the filming and also managed to take all these photos to share with us, then he has prepared them and posted them here for our pleasure and information.
An exceptional amount of work and dedication from Stan to bring us these pictures - I hope you all appreciate this effort as much as I do?
Thank you, Stan.
-
This picture from Alan Gardner is of a plant grown and shown by Margaret and Henry Taylor
Narcissus 'Tinkerbell'
[attachimg=1]
The following pix are of Narcissus moleroi show by them in 2007 and 2010 -
[attachimg=2]
[attachimg=3]
Can anyone help out with background of this 'Tinkerbell' ? ( There are two other narcissus registered with this name) I can, I hope contact Margaret and Henry tomorrow to check with them.
-
Daffseek lists 2 cultivars with the name 'Tinkerbell', but neither of them bear any resemblance to this plant, one being a 2Y-Y and the other 6W-Y.

Didn't read Maggi's post fully, she already said this! :-[

I think Margaret and Henry had the same pot at Kendal, it was an alpestris crossed with something (I can't remember what) and a very nice flower.

Great report from Sandy Leven (and all photographers in this forum"string"). I liked the the RBGE stand and the hyacinths display which broaden the interest for the public and the generalist gardener. Thanks.
