Title: Glenarn and Geilston gardens
Post by: TC on May 19, 2013, 09:04:04 PM
A picture trip of two quite special gardens
Geilston belongs to the National Trust for Scotland and is just outside the village of Cardross on the N. bank of the Clyde, near Helensburgh and contains some rather nice Rhods. and azaleas in an open woodland setting with the bonus of an old walled garden.

Rhododendron lovers will know Glenarn, at Rhu, just outside Helensburgh on the banks of the Gareloch.
The weather was kind to us and because of the late season, the large leaf Rh. were at their best.
We met Sue Thornley beavering away planting out some Echiums in a reclaimed area of the garden which used to be the rock garden about 40 years ago.  She now has the accolade of having a "champion tree"  - the largest Rh.Macabeanum in the UK.   It is certainly huge but difficult to photograph as there is nothing next to it to compare it with.  I will split the pictures to the individual gardens with Geilston first,
