Hi Every Body,
I have a blog called Artgarden, because of my two main obsessions; art and gardening. I am a professional artist, and a keen garden amateur. Lately I have been posting about my Meconopsis again....and again). My garden is filled up with these beauties, and I always keep my camera close. I actually cannot get enough of the beauties, and winter is the best time to enjoy what was, waiting for the show to be repeated. I also have some posts from a trip to Kappadokia, turkey last fall. Of course, I could not resist picking seeds... Well, you are very welcome to visit my blog; http://ellypropelly.wordpress.com (http://ellypropelly.wordpress.com)

Quoting from Ell's Blog:
My favorite plant Meconopsis betonicifolia, which I grow from seeds harvested in my garden, cared for with lots of love, and photographed with entusiasm, curiosity and humbleness. What a miracle!
I agree it is hard not to love Meconopsis betonicifolia - but your photos of the Meconopsis betonicifolia alba would surely delight even the person most keen on the blues!

Welcome, Elly, the 2000th forumist! Another honour!
I like your website, your photos are very good and I love your bird prints. Some of us are also artists, it seems gardening and art go together.

Very subtle this time, ;) ;D ;D

Hi Maggi, annew and ronm,
thanks for responding to my blog! Half the joy is sharing - as with art. Yes, annew, there are long traditions for this combination. Searching for the mystery, the magic, good questions can be done in both fields. Happy to see you like my birds too. They actually lived indoors with us for 10 days, as the parents were dead.

Lovely photos of your Meconopsis on your blog. Loved the frosty angel too.

Thank you John, happy to share it - especially as it is snowing outside right now :-)

Moseplassen, a Norwegian website for garden enthusiasts, has released a competition called "X-FAKTOR", and the theme is red and orange. It was difficult to choose among tulips, poppies etc, but here is what I ended up with. It was so touching, seeing the Poppy leaning towards the Pansies, shining together in the rain. My other candidates can be seen on my blog.

Presenting some plants with black (dark) and green flowers in my blog this week. Sorry, the text is in Norwegian, but the Language of Pictures is universal, so please enjoy; http://ellypropelly.wordpress.com/2013/02/20/mork-og-mystisk-eller/ (http://ellypropelly.wordpress.com/2013/02/20/mork-og-mystisk-eller/)

Diversity. Take the challenge and give the bees a grand buffet when theyarrive. Without them - no nothing. See more in my blog:

Elly, I totally agree with the sentiment of your posts, and congratulate you on attempting to encourage others to greater awareness of the plight of the majority of insects. 8) 8)
I assume you are aware that the picture you show here is of a Diptera sp. ( true flies ), and not a Hymenoptera sp. ( bees, wasps, ants etc. ). The Diptera are just as important to encourage, just not as loveable to many, ;D ;D
-
Hi Romn, thanks for answering. I did not go into the different kinds of insects in the post, just welcome them as a big family of fellow creatures :D but thanks a lot for your informative reply. I actually think she is a real attractive one. We see less "ordinary" bees here now, but lots of different bumblebees. The only one I cannot like is the vasp. If they just could stick to the flowers.... :P

I agree - and wearing all that pink, she must be a "she" ! Never seen such a pink fly!

;D I think many people feel the same as you do Elly. Usually the species responsible for this bad feeling is 'The Common Wasp' Vespa vulgaris, or 'The German Wasp' Vespa germanica. Most other species are much much less aggresive ( even the Vespa sp. have much more to do than attack, but unfortunately they do respond to sudden movement or perceived threat, :( ), and many have much in common with artists like yourself. ;D ;D
Certainly 'The Potter Wasps', the Eumenidae sp., and others ( a couple of examples here... many more elsewhere) -

and 'The Paper Wasp', Polistinae sp. and others -

...........these and many other wasps produce the most incredible 'artistic' structures, ;D ;D, as well as helping to control some of the other insect species that many gardeners consider pests. 8) 8)

A highlight in my garden is the Pulsatilla. During Christmas I could not resist a little gardening, just clearing up withered leafs etc. I should have waited of course, for suddenly I stood there with parts of my Pulsatilla in my hand. Luckily I saw traces of roots on it, and took it to my heated greenhouse, and potted it up in several pots. See the portrait in my blog: http://ellypropelly.wordpress.com/2013/03/06/kubjelle-pulsatilla/ (http://ellypropelly.wordpress.com/2013/03/06/kubjelle-pulsatilla/)

I cannot resist putting seeds in the soil. At a certain point my system will collapse, but I will worry about that - later.

Corthusa matthiolii! The name is like the plant a piece of poetry. See how it performs in my garden, Bergen, Norway.
-
A pretty little plant Elly.
-
Hi David, thank you, I really love this one. Especially the alba version.

So how did the Meconopsis react on this strange broom like newcomer? Did he deserve his place on the front row? Well, Sweet William was very much aware of his own value. A grey, rainy day, but my mood is blue like the sky on a clear day. I am inspired by my Delphiniums. Allready with buds, they are standing in the green house, eager to get out and show off.
