Stunning pics, Hans. Is flowering in December normal for this species?

Hans,

There is a purity about that species that seems to outshine the other species of Acis.  I just love it.  Thanks.
Cheers.

Min winter temp -8 or -9°C. Max summer temp 40°C. Thankfully, maybe once or twice a year only.

Beautiful, Hans. I assume it is in a pot? What is your growing regime for it? And how hardy? I think I have some small bulbs in a pot that I chipped a few years ago and am still waiting for them to get to flowering size.

Martin ,

Yes it is in a pot -I take it outside from my greenhouse yesterday for a pic .
In my greenhouse is in winter a minimum of +5° - I water this plants from September until March -in summer they are dry in my greenhouse in shade .
They are easy -no problem !

Michael :
Maybe you know it under the old name : Leucojum tingitanum
I would suggest you Acis species for your collection - I think they are better for you than snowdrops.

By the way, could someone tell me how Acis is pronounced. Since I never have much time to get out and about and meet other gardeners, and since Acis is a new genus, I've never heard anyone pronounce it. I think I know how I'd say it in a classical Latin pronunciation, but it might be Greek derived or be named after a place of person (e.g. botanist) with a completely different pronunciation. So, to those who already know, sorry for sounding like a dumbo, but how do the rest of you (who do get to shows etc) say it? Having said all that, I still can't help thinking of them as Leucojum.   :-\

Martin ,

Sorry I can not help you with pronoucing it in your language - I call it : A -zis

To Acis - please look here in PBS :
http://www.pacificbulbsociety.org/pbswiki/index.php/Acis

there is written that the name Acis is older than Leucojum

Beautiful Acis Hans!

For those 'few' reading English, they might try Acis and Galatea.  ;)

Today the pronunciation of the Latin 'c' is always like an English 'c' of car for example. In German this is similar to 'k'.
