With me the earliest crocus in my collection is C. caricus, which just opened today. Of the ones already blooming, none has any brown in the throat, which I consider a particularly appealing feature of this species (Unfortunately, I cannot attach a photo as I simply don’t have time to transfer photos to my laptop and downsize them and direct smartphone upload no longer works).

I wouldn't say it's green. But with the outer blue and the inner yellow at the base it can seem that way.

Not always caricus has brown in throat - in this aspect it is quite variable.

Sadly, yes. It's not that the ones I have are not beautiful, so I shouldn't complain. But the dark throat just enhances the effect of the dark anthers so much more..
Btw, it’s quite hard to pollinate them, they are really sparing with their pollen.
