Very busy those last weeks and i didn't post for while...
Allium libani, is quite a fast grower in 6 years from seeds i got few bulbs giving very nice blossoms.
I keep it very dry until january.
-
A. paradoxum normale has been in flower here for over a week - totally exquisite, one of my favourites. The large translucent bells look like they are sculpted from ice or sugar,
-
Allium noeanum LEE364 from Iran
-
Allium ovalifolium, always the first allium to merge. PIc: 30 March 2022

-
Allium meronense OP212054 from Israel

Allium materculae in a white form

I have just been browsing through the Allium posts by year having dropped on one from 2012!
That year there were 14 pages of posts.Last year just one.
I do not post very often. If at all, to be honest.
Now, as an avid allium grower I am keen to rectify this situation and converse with like-minded members.
I would love to hear from growers willing to exchange their knowledge and, hopefully, plant materials.
I grow a wide variety of species alliums, many from seeds, and a few cultivars. I am always on the lookout for new species to add to my collection.
Anyone interested?
A. shelkovnikovii image (250422).
Look forward to hearing from you.
I am not particularly quick to reply. Too many plants!

Great to hear from you, Paul! If no-one posts, there will be a real shortage of pages about the various plants - so you are most welcome to post to share your experiences with growing plants with folk in this forum to keep for "posterity" and be a searchable resource for plant lovers.

Thanks Maggi.
I am still discovering allium propagation and cultivation.
I will gladly post when I am reasonably confident that my observations are 'real' and not just figments of my imagination due to my inexperience.
I am finding it very difficult, even trying to keep up with papers of recently discovered or re-named species, to gather much information regarding either cultivation or propagation of many of the species that I have managed to acquire seeds of. I have had a few losses of bulbs, too. Or they don't appear to thrive.
So many unanswered questions! I could write a book!
When I have conducted a few more trials I may have some interesting results regarding allium seed germination. Work ongoing.
Best regards,
PAUL

Allium crenulatum
[attach=1]
Allium diabolense
[attach=2]
These were grown from bulbs, other A. will be flowering soon(er or later), like Allium cupanii ssp. hirtovaginatum, which was flowering August last year, probably because of late sowing (february ).

To correct previous info😀.

Back from a botanical trip in Iran.
Time to post some allium from the past weeks.
Allium breviscapum, own collection from the Alvand Mnts in iran
Allium derderianum, own collection from the Elborz Mnts in Iran
Allium minutiflorum from Esfahan area
-
Allium isakulii, an Archibald collection from the Nuratau
Allium sahandicum from the Sahand Mnts in Iran
Allium shelkovnikovii, a Vickery collection from Iran
-
These 3 collections were received as allium akaka but are in fact allium subakaka from Turkey (Turkiye from now on).
The real allium akaka is restricted to Iran.
-
Allium alamutense
Allium egorovae
Allium keusgenii at the end of flowering
Allium haemanthoides
-
Allium karataviense henrikii
Allium lycaonicum
Allium ubipetrense
-
Two Iranian collections still to be determined
-
Photographed during this years trip in Iran : Allium saralicum

Dear Luc S - you are showing real signs of an allium obsession- well done!

As you can expect this is only a part of the collection. Pitty nobody else has the same addiction.
And I have more addictions interests as you know.
-
I hope all your botanical addictions flourish, dear Luc! I love that there are so many of us with this "problem"!!
-
Hi Luc,
Your allium addiction has borne fruit - or at least flowers! Such wonders!
I'd love to indulge more in alliums but they are almost impossible to import into Australia as seed - I think it has to be fumigated or something equally destructive and expensive!
cheers

For me these rules are stupid for seeds.

From what I have seen on TV, all post goes through x-ray machines which show organic matter.

Can anyone identify this Allium please?
I bought the bulbs as A. caspium, which I now find it isn't.
It looks similar to that described as A. caspium yellow green (Rare Plants).
I suspect that this is another example of a misnomer being perpetuated.
I would like to rectify this with your help.
It stands about 45 cm tall, the umbel is about 15 cm dia. and the stem is round.
Any ideas??
-
looks like Allium schubertii but i'm not an expert of the genius.

Allium cyaneum has not long finished flowering here and followed more quickly than usual by Allium beesianum. I'm not generally a big fan of alliums but these two I like very much.
Allium beesianum images posted below. This is one of two groups in my garden of this species. The first was from a well-known Scottish nursery and it's not doing too well this year as it got crowded out by other plants. However, when obtained, this plant had many bulbils which I detached and potted up - these have now produced this vigorous group in the images below.
