Tonight’s EBAY listings include the LAST TWO of our sought-after Myths and Legends series – DRYAD VENUS and DRYAD ECHO.

DRYAD VENUS has curvaceous, shapely flowers with a flirty frill around the outer segments on mature flowers. The mark on the outer segments is shaped like an inverted heart with an inner segment mark of a deeper green 'X'.
Dryad Venus is a mid-height snowdrop growing to about 20cm high under glass, probably shorter in the open, and is delightfully scented. It can multiply very rapidly, a single bulb sometimes splitting into 10 or more offsets.
As if all this wasn’t enough, Venus hides a special secret - she carries yellow genes, having Wendy's Gold and Corrin as parents, so will be useful in breeding for yellow inverse poculiforms.

DRYAD ECHO is named for the beautiful Nymph of the woods and mountains, cursed to repeat the last words she heard.

Echo is a statuesque and imposing snowdrop, easily recognised by a mysterious pale ‘echo’ spot above the dark green mark on the outers, and a corresponding pale mirroring of the dark inverted V on the inners. It is honey-scented, vigorous and increases well here.
It is a worthy companion to Demeter, Artemis and Venus. As usual, we offer a multi-nosed ‘clump-in-waiting’.

This session is also your last chance to add DRYAD GOLD STANDARD to your collection.
A medium-tall, imposing variety with large bulbs, it has fine, large bell-shaped flowers, the incurving outer segments make them gently ‘quill’ into a point at their apices when mature. The large bulbs clump up quickly.

The ovary is shorter than Gold Sceptre and most of the rest of the group, and the pedicel longer. This has been one of my favourites since its first flowering.
This is the LAST bulb this season of this cultivar, and a triple-nosed ‘instant clump’ with two flowers.

The second ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP ( Taavi’s garden seedling) is our other yellow in this listing.

As a group, the Estonian Spirit snowdrops are distinct by their generally compact stature, very pale leaves and ethereal colouring of ovary and inner mark – a very pale creamy yellow.
Although appearing delicate, they are tough customers used to harsh Estonian winters. They do very well and flower freely on our raised sand bed.
This clone is one that arose in Taavi’s own garden in 2008. Flowering at 7-8 cm high under glass, the short, pale, glaucous leaves compliment the elongated flower with pale yellow ovary and inner mark which is a narrow ‘bridge’, grading to a slightly deeper olive-gold at the apex. The mark sometimes will break at the top of the arc to produce a double spot. It increases rapidly.

We are also offering two different varieties of the new Estonian Bird series of double snowdrops, bred by Taavi Tuulik.:

LAGLE is named after the Estonian for Barnacle Goose (Branta leucopsis).
It is a very fine double snowdrop flowering at about 16cm high with usually very regular flowers with 3 outers and a neat whorl of inner segments which have a double mark, the two marks often joined together. The leaves are upright and about half the height of the flowering stems at flowering time. This is the LAST ONE this season.

KAUR is named after the Estonian for Arctic Loon (Gavia arctica).

It is an attractive double snowdrop flowering at about 13cm high. The flowers usually have 3 unmarked outers and a neat whorl of inner segments which have an inverted heart mark at the apex and occasionally a fainter mark at the base. Between the outers and the inner whorl, there is usually an additional set of 3 segments that are intermediate in shape and colouring to the others.  Taavi thinks that this makes it a double poculiform. The leaves are about half the height of the flowering stems at flowering time. The bulbs are vigorous and increase well. Only the third bulb ever offered.

Finally, in its first offering - GEISHA AUGEN

Coming to me from Hagen Engelmann in Germany, this is an elegant little snowdrop, flowering at about 10-12 cm high with upright leaves and long-clawed flowers hanging from a curved spathe.
The inner segments have a distinctive double mark, consisting of a very dark green apical W-shaped mark, looking rather like a moustache, and towards the base a pale green V, which is sometimes broken into 2 halves, giving the effect of exotically tilted oriental eyes – presumably leading to the name (Geisha Eyes). Not sure the moustache fits with the geisha theme though!

As usual, find the listings here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/dryadzny/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_ipg=&_from=

GOOD LUCK!

Finishing tonight – Your last chance to add the heavenly duo DRYAD VENUS and DRYAD ECHO to your collection. Dryad Venus has three flowers for you to pollinate with a yellow (or ask me to do it before dispatch) to give a chance of yellow ipocs in a few years’ time.

For the yellows, we offer the petite, pale ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP, contrasted with the bold, bright (and final) DRYAD GOLD STANDARD.

The new German GEISHA AUGEN adds an exotic touch with its oriental tilted ‘eyes’ and slim, graceful flower.

Finally, double delight with Estonian Bird Doubles LAGLE and KAUR making a rare appearance.

In tonight’s ebay listing, Dryad Nursery are proud to introduce the latest addition to our pantheon of Myths and Legends – DRYAD JUPITER.
Jupiter was the king of the gods in Roman mythology, and this name was chosen for our new inverse poculiform because of its regal, upright bearing and crown-shaped outer mark.
Growing to about 25 cm under cover, the strong stems bear large flowers, held well above the leaves for maximum impact.
Each of the outer segments is broad and convex leading to a full, rounded outline to the flower, while the edge of the outers is tilted upwards to form a rim which reaches all the way around the perimeter except for the basal ‘claw’. The texture is distinctly ridged, so that the outer mark, a rich green arc, extends along the furrows to produce the ‘crown’ which is a signature of this variety. There is a small sinus notch.
The inner segments feature a green X mark, of which the apical half is deep green, while the basal half is pale and diffuse, whereas the inner surfaces are almost entirely striped with green.
The plants increase well, forming large bulbs which flower consistently, and will make an imposing and majestic statement in the garden. The plant on offer is a triple-nosed bulb with 2 flowers, for instant impact.

We have two of Taavi Tuulik’s Estonian Bird doubles on offer tonight:

RISTPART is named after the Estonian for Shelduck (Tadorna tadorna). It is a striking double snowdrop flowering at about 16cm high with usually very regular flowers with 3 outers and a neat whorl of inner segments which have a double mark, the two marks usually joined together. The leaves are upright and about half the height of the flowering stems at flowering time. In some seasons, the central inner segments are longer than the others, protruding out like fangs.
Taavi tells me that the mother plant is G. elwesii from NW Black Sea Coast - never before used in breeding as far as he knows. It is one of his favourites.

KIUR is named after the Estonian for Tree Pipit (Anthus trivialis)  It is a neat little double, flowering at about 10cm high, the flowers are usually very regular, with 3 outer segments and a beautifully regular boss of inner segments, each boldly marked with a green 'bridge' at the sinus, flaring into a wide oval towards the base.
The bulbs are vigorous and increase well - a gem!

Also hailing from Estonia, we offer two clones of the ghostly Estonian Spirit Group:

ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP clone 2009/CS6 was found on the Island of Hiiumaa, Luidja village, in a naturalized population in alder forest in 2007. The flower hangs clear of the spathe which is longer than the pedicel.  In addition, the colour of the ovary and especially the inner mark are a slightly stronger olive, the inner mark being the darkest of the clones I grow here. The outer segments are also rounded lengthwise and more concave laterally. Vigorous and flowers freely.

ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP Taavi’s garden seedling - this clone is one that arose in Taavi’s own garden in 2008. Flowering at 7-8 cm high under glass, the short, pale, glaucous leaves compliment the elongated flower with pale yellow ovary and inner mark which is a narrow ‘bridge’, grading to a deeper olive-gold at the apex. The mark sometimes will break at the top of the arc to produce a double spot. It increases rapidly.

After the ethereal tones of the Estonian Spirits, comes the deeper gold of G. woronowii ELIZABETH HARRISON, famed for hugely breaking the price record for a snowdrop when it was first introduced. A very beautiful yellow form of G. woronowii, the golden yellow of the inner mark and ovary being beautifully set off by the deep green glossy foliage.
A must in every collection.

Last, but not least, two rare beauties from Hagen Engelmann in Germany:

GEISHA AUGEN is an elegant little snowdrop, flowering at about 10-12 cm high with upright leaves and long-clawed flowers hanging from a curved spathe.

SCHORBUSER IRRLICHT is a colour-change G. plicatus cultivar (the name means Will o' the Wisp), the flower opening with green markings which change to yellow over the first few days. Rarely offered, this is the LAST one this season.  Read about this variety here: http://www.srgc.org.uk/logs/logdir/2015Feb261424987169IRG62.pdf

Finishing tonight – our first every offering of our new inverse poculiform DRYAD JUPITER, which will be a head-turner in your collection with its upright, sturdy bearing and substantial, deeply ridged and flanged flowers displaying the signature deep green ‘crown’. Increasing well from its large bulbs, the listed plant has three shoots and two flowers to get you well on the way to an eye-catching clump.

Our three yellows on offer include two from the ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP of diminutive, ghostly G. nivalis, with their distinctive very pale leaves and flowers. In marked contrast is the glossy green leaf and brighter yellow of G. woronowii ELIZABETH HARRISON, all multi-nosed bulbs.

Two Estonian Bird doubles, RISTPART and KIUR offer an opportunity to add these new, distinctive plants to your garden. New doubles come few and far-between, and these are destined to be classics with their compact growth and neat flowers.

Finally, hailing from Germany – the last colour-changing SCHORBUSER IRRLICHT, and GEISHA AUGEN with the characteristic two-tone mark.

A great selection to choose from – see them all here:

Current restrictions mean that my usual Daffy Day fund-raiser for the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal cannot go ahead this year. In order that the charity will not miss out, I’ve decided that the proceeds from the sale of the second, and last, DRYAD JUPITER will be donated to the appeal. Please bid generously for this beautiful, rare snowdrop and support this worthy cause.

Jupiter is attended by a great international selection.

The three offerings from Germany, and the garden of Hagen Engelmann, include a yellow and a green:

DAS GELBE VOM EI is a compact snowdrop with beautifully contrasting green ovary and yellow inner mark. This colouring is stable and the plant is not a ‘colour-changing’ snowdrop. Resembling a rather more sturdy Blonde Inge, flowering at about 13cm high, it will make an eye-catching feature in the garden.

GREENKEEPER flowers at about 13-15cm high. The flowers, held erect well above the splayed leaves, have bold green lines in the mid-third of the outer segments, which are merged together with paler green shading. The inner segments have a white rim with deep green at the apex, gradually shading through paler tones towards the white base.

The last plant this season of GEISHA AUGEN is an elegant little snowdrop, flowering at about 10-12 cm high with upright leaves and long-clawed flowers hanging from a curved spathe.

Our triple from Estonia comprise a bird, and two spirits:

AUL is part of the new Estonian Birds group of doubles, bred by Taavi Tuulik. This one is named after the Estonian for Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis).
AUL is a very pretty and distinctive double snowdrop flowering at 10-12 cm, with narrow leaves, and almost spherical buds opening to show 3 outer segments surrounding a boss of inner segments which bear a two-toned double mark. The apical inverted V is a dark green, whereas the second mark, about half-way along the segment, is a more diffuse oval of pale apple green, sometimes separating into two 'eyes'.
The 3 central inner segments are sometimes all white, extending beyond the rest of the inners.
It increases well.

The LAST plant this season of ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP clone 2009/CS6 comes next - the flower hangs clear of the spathe which is longer than the pedicel.  In addition, the colour of the ovary and especially the inner mark are a slightly stronger olive, the inner mark being the darkest of the clones I grow here. The outer segments are also rounded lengthwise and more concave laterally. Vigorous and flowers freely.

This is accompanied by the first plant of ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP 2009-CS4. Found on the Island of Kassari, Esiküla village, in an abandoned garden in 2007, this clone is distinctive for its darker, more olive yellow mark, with a very narrow bridge, contrasting with a clear yellow, more rounded ovary. The flower hangs free of the spathe on a fairly long pedicel, the thicker textured outer segments being fairly strongly cupped, with a short claw. Flowers at 7cm high here. Leaves short at flowering.

Finally, our Scottish contribution is our second plant of the beautiful and distinctive yellow G. woronowii ELIZABETH HARRISON.

All are the multi-nosed plants we like to offer for swift impact in your garden, and a wide variety of forms and colours to, hopefully, appeal to all tastes.

Finishing tonight - the second, and last, DRYAD JUPITER, proceeds from which will be donated to the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal. Please bid generously for this beautiful, rare snowdrop and support this worthy cause. This new inverse poculiform is robust with relatively large flowers of heavy substance, deeply ridged, bearing the signature deep green crown, as befits the king of the gods. Vigorous and with large bulbs, Dryad Jupiter will be a wonderful addition to your collection.

The multi-national chorus line is made up of three Germans, three Estonians and a Scot!

From Germany, virescent GREENKEEPER, elegant GEISHA AUGEN and green and gold DAS GELBE VOM EI (egg yolk) make a varied trio, while the Estonian contribution is two clones of the pale and winsome ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP, 2009/CS6 and 2009/CS4, and the curvy little Estonian bird group double, AUL, with its prettily two-toned outer mark.

Finally, the emerald and yellow combination that is ELIZABETH HARRISON adds some Scottish flair.

Many thanks to all the bidders for our DRYAD JUPITER last week, the proceeds of which go to the Marie Curie Daffodil appeal - a great result!

We are winding down our ebay listings with only a few later-flowering cultivars to come – especially valuable for extending your snowdrop season.

In tonight’s ensemble we offer two yellows, two greens and a yellow-and-green!

The yellows comprise two very different varieties – the waif-like G. nivalis ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP (2009-CS4) and the emerald green-leaved G. woronowii ELIZABETH HARRISON.

Our greens both originate in Germany with Hagen Engelmann – GREENKEEPER at 12cm high and petite SCHMALHANS IM GRÜNEN at only half that height at beginning of flowering – ideal for troughs and containers, making a charming pot subject.

The yellow and green combination of DAS GELBE VOM EI is our final choice, the contrast between bright green ovary and sunny yellow markings providing eye-catching appeal in the garden.

As usual, find them here:

Finishing tonight!

The lovely German bicolour DAS GELBE VOM EI, with its green ovary and golden inner mark will be a distinctive addition to your later-flowering snowdrops. The colouring makes it a slightly larger and more refined partner for Blonde Inge.

With its bright green leaves and yellow inner mark, G. woronowii ELIZABETH HARRISON provides a very different and beautiful contrast – no wonder it is so valued and south after.

With its overall paleness and delicate appearance (though not constitution) G. nivalis ESTONIAN SPIRIT GROUP (2009-CS4) is deceptively eye-catching, especially suited to raised beds and troughs.

Hagen Engelmann’s two greens – medium height GREENKEEPER and more compact SCHMALHANS IM GRÜNEN will be welcome later-flowering additions to expand the flowering season of your collection.

As usual, find them here:

Tonight’s listings are our FINAL snowdrop offerings for this spring, so this is your last chance to grow these exclusive cultivars.

New to our listings is the enchanting new double from Estonia:

TUTKAS - First time offered A new double snowdrop bred by Taavi Tuulik in Estonia, part of his Estonian Birds group of doubles. This one is named after the Estonian for Ruff (Philomachus pugnax).
It is a very refined double snowdrop starting to open at less than 10cm high. The stiffly upright, hooded, supervolute leaves present the flowers beautifully.
At first, the very regular flowers will fool you into thinking it is a single snowdrop, as the inner segments are so neatly arranged inside.
There are 3 outer segments and a very tight whorl of inner segments bearing a deep green inverted V at the apex, usually joined to a matching zone in the basal half, but not reaching as far as the base.  The sturdy, almost cylindrical ovary is subtended by a curved spathe. This has become a nursery favourite.

We have no fewer than FOUR rare virescent snowdrops to extend your flowering season. Along with the last of GREENKEEPER and petite SCHMALHANS IM GRÜNEN, we offer two others from Hagen Engelmann’s garden in Germany:

BASISGRÜNER is an exceedingly rare green-marked snowdrop - I only ONE to offer. Basisgrüner has green shaded lines across the outer segments and 2 pale 'eyes' at the base of the inner segments in addition to the bold green inverted U at the apex. (Last photo - for some reason will not show the file name)

GREEN CROWN
Green Crown flowers at about 12cm high, the flowers have green lines in the apical half of the outer segments, except for the tip, which are merged together with paler green shading. The inner segments have a white rim with a deep green apical mark extending to half the length of the segment. This continues in paler tones with deeper striations right to the base. See photograph to compare the flowers of Green Crown on the left and Greenkeeper on the right.

Finally, the last of the green-and-yellow DAS GELBE VOM EI, which have proved very popular with our customers.

You can find them here:

Finishing tonight – your last chance this spring to bag one of our exclusive varieties.

TUTKAS - First time offered, and only one available of this beautiful new double snowdrop, bred by Taavi Tuulik in Estonia, and part of his Estonian Birds group of doubles.
The regular flowers have three outer segments, and a very tight whorl of inner segments bearing a deep green inverted V at the apex, usually joined to a matching zone in the basal half, but not reaching as far as the base.  I think this is a first-class cultivar, which, as well as looking fantastic in your garden, would make a superb pot plant for early shows.

Our four virescent snowdrops comprise GREENKEEPER, petite SCHMALHANS IM GRÜNEN,
BASISGRÜNER (last photo) and GREEN CROWN – all rarely offered.

Finally, the last of the green ovary/yellow mark DAS GELBE VOM EI, in appearance a slightly larger and more refined Blonde Inge.
