Pleione saxicola
« on: December 17, 2008, 01:17:22 PM »
Hi

I was wondering if anyone had views on the over-wintering temperature for this species? I've always kept it quite warm (like maculata) due to it's early growth, but does anyone have any different experiences?

Thanks

Dan

Hi Dan

I have grown plenty of Pleione saxicola and to be honest find them the easiest of the Autumn flowering species. I've tried various temps and many different types of mix, all giving the same results. Last year I put some in the glasshouse all winter just covering with a fleece when freezing at night and they all did fine but I think you would be better doing as Rob describes and using a windowsill indoors. Bathroom would be ideal.
