New Orchid?
« on: September 04, 2008, 05:37:00 PM »
Barry Starling's wife Pam found this orchid on a hillside in Yunnan. No on in the party could identify it, not even the Chinese botanist accompanying them. Any ideas?

Just had a note from Jens Nielsen. He thinks it might be Amitostigma.

The photo does not give any indication to size etc which is not much help and is there a large leaf at the base?. This looks very similar to Hemipilia crucianta Finet which are found on grassy slopes in Taiwan, SW Sichuan and NW Yunnan. I'd copy the page out of my book but the scanner is not working for some reason on my new PC. The other went bang last week loosing all information for the last month as that's when I backed up last >:(.

I've had a request from a Tasmanian (Marcus Harvey) to put up two pics of orchids and ask for identification please. I know someone out there will know.

Hello Lesley, both look like dactylorhiza sambucina. Nice photos!
