What happened to the bud?
« on: March 26, 2013, 05:57:12 PM »
Hello!
I´m new on this forum and quite new with Pleiones. Today I discovered my Zeus Weinstein bud doesn´t look well.
Does anyone know what happened to it?
Helena

hi,
I think it is a Pleione, who has a fungal infection.
Perhaps due to high humidity. (through diligent spraying and
little air movement!)
What is the location of the plant and how is she now? (the plant itself should
the less make up)

Greetings
Bernd

Hi Helena,
I'd like to help but, as Bernd says, we need to know more about how you have been growing your pleione: temperature: minimum at night, maximum in the day, light levels: direct sun, maybe on a window sill?
The problem may have been caused by any number of things: too hot, too cold, sudden drop in temperature, too wet, too dry, too much fertilizer, sunburn...or maybe it's just a weak clone which is shy to flower. It sometimes happens. Pleiones can be a little temperamental.
Whatever the reason, this one will not get better now but should, with care, produce a nice bulb for next year. :)

Hi Helena  :)
Yes, it's exactly like Maren says.
There are many ways. When I look at the photo exactly, it looks like a rather dry environment.
So we can only speculate. There really are many possible causes!
How is the plant now?

greetings
Bernd

Thank you Bernd and Maren for your answers.  Maybe the temperature change was too high from the winter rest in the fridge  to the room. And I guess the air was a bit dry. The plant has now a healthy leaf and
my other Pleiones got nice flowers so I hope this one will do better next year  :)
