Title: Virus?
Post by: Alex on January 16, 2012, 09:36:00 PM
Hi all,

I'm posting this on behalf of my Dad, who grows a few Oncos and wonders whether the I. kirkwoodii in the below pics may be virus infected? Any opinions welcome.

Ta,

Alex

I agree with Fred, wouldn't keep that, though I have known early lush growth to look a little like this for a few weeks. (possibly a nutrient imbalance or low light rather than virus being responsible?) Suggest you get rid of it, I can give you a replacement piece if necessary.

Nutrient disbalance has more regular discoloration, this one looks just as virus :'(

I had a book with plenty of colour pictures of different nutriment disbalance and combination of two element shortage or excess, but on vegetable and fruit tree leaves. Unfortunately it isn't in proper place of my bookshelf, I think someone took it and "forgot" return. It was so long ago when I last time looked in it that I even not remember - was it in Latvian or in Russian language, but I suppose that similar books must be in English or German, too. So you can search on Internet. Of course - not about bulbs but most likely about "more serious" farmers crops. But symptoms generally are expressed in same way.

Thankyou Janice, I will have a look.
I destroyed my first plant of Iris kirkwoodii, 12 yars ago, for fear of virus. I now believe it was not actualy virused, but with the limited knowlege I had then, it was probably the best thing to do.  :'(
