Keukenhof Gardens in Spring 2009, Lisse NL.
« on: March 24, 2009, 06:57:09 PM »
Every year one of the most famous and popular places to visit in Holland
spring, is the flower bulb garden Keukenhof in Lisse.
This park of 32 hectares (80 acres) since last week opened again and this
year celebrates its 60th Anniversary.
I will show you some pictures which I made in week 12 of this year.
If there is demand for, I could show some pictures every week.
The park will be opened for public till May 16th.

The first pictures give some impressions of the park where very old trees
are under planted with spring bulbs.
In October when there is special Bulb Market for the public during a few days,
the park is open for public too (Free entrance) and I made last year some
pictures which I show sometimes to show the difference.

On pic. 3 you see mass planting of Crocus. When they are over here will flower
Double Early Tulips in April.
The other pictures speak for themselves.

Thomas, I had some more pictures for the first posting, but had
other things to do first.
So I'll take my camera next time with me.

Outside in the park mostly Crocus and Iris reticulata give the color,
but there are huge glasshouses where always is something to see,
like Tulips, Narcissus , etc.

In the last batch some examples how beds are planted with
early Crocus and Tulips.
In the same bed already late Tulips are coming up for display
later in the season.
There are some Corylopsis which must have been planted in the
early years of this show garden.

Keukenhof 1 13 Tulipa Showwinner + Crocus Jeanne d'Arc
Keukenhof 1 15 Tulipa Early Harvest + Crocus Yellow
Keukenhof 1 17 Tulipa Early Harvest + Crocus Jeanne d'Arc K
Keukenhof 1 24
Keukenhof 1 26 Corylopsis pauciflora 1
Keukenhof 1 27 Corylopsis pauciflora 2

Keukenhof 1 40

In the last two pictures you may see how the bulbs are laid out
in October and how it looks in March.

Luit,

Wonderful gardens and what a display of spring bulbs, simply amazing. I am also struck by the obvious excellent standard of maintenance in the garden - witness the perfectly cut edges to the grass etc.

Many thanks for an excellent walk in the park.

nice to see! i was there with a school group in '81!
we were doing a bicycle trip through parts of Holland, and i have to say, Paddy--at least at that time, virtually the whole country is maintained to that immaculate standard ;)

I can only agree with David.
More pictures please. So we can see the "new bulbs" for the next spring. And my list get longer and longer.

Thank you all for your nice comments!

Keukenhof Week 2.

Here is the first batch of pictures I made this Week.

In two months about 700.000 people visit the park every year.

As I live not far away, I can visit the park early in the morning
before the crowds are coming in.
So it's possible for me to show pictures (almost) without people.
This week outside not much progression with temps around 8 C.

Here some overall shots first:

Here the last pictures I made in the glasshouses.
On the last picture you see how the people are coming in
when I leave.
Many people come with organized Bus Travels and they get about
1½ to 2 hours to see the whole park.
