Title: Fully searchable master list of seed names/numbers added
Post by: Maggi Young on August 17, 2012, 09:22:48 PM
Just added  to the the Archibald Archive : a fully searchable master list of seed names/numbers. This has been painstakingly compiled by David Stephens and is a major advance for those seeking to check plant names against collection numbers of the Archibald seed-lists.
Many congratulations to David for this excellent work.

It is presented for information and research.
As with all items in the Archibald Archive, it should not be copied or republished without permission which should be sought via the SRGC at info@srgc.org.uk

You can access the Master List here :
http://www.srgc.net/site/index.php/features-mainmenu-47/resources/266-seedlists-from-jja-seeds-1984-to-2011 (http://www.srgc.net/site/index.php/features-mainmenu-47/resources/266-seedlists-from-jja-seeds-1984-to-2011)

edit : Now there are links to photos of plants grown from the seed added to several hundred of the items on the seed list.  :)

Gerry
Long time no see.
I was lucky enough to know Jim and Jenny well, and to receive some archive material.
What else could I do but try to preserve and share it.

Thank you, Gerry and Ashley - as David says, this was something that deserved to be done and given as wide an audience as possible, and it  can certainly reach a world wide audience on the SRGC website.
I have been delighted at how quickly pieces were "picked up" by the major search engines, allowing ever more folks to find the archive.  :)

AS of last night there has been an update of the master list of seed numbers :
Entries marked # indicate a link to a photo. Several hundred photos have been linked to the list.  Sizes of the photos vary.
The master list is in the form of a searchable pdf.
We again invite you to send photos of plants grown from JCA/JJA seed so that we can add them to the master list.

Photos that we have of such plants, but without definitive seed numbers attached, will be published separately

Archibald Master list:

N. B. added later :
If you are following old SRGC site without https these will not work - you can find all up to date links from https://www.srgc.net   and the Archibald archives from https://www.srgc.net/add-archibald-intro.asp

Thanks Gerry! [attachimg=1]

It was a tedious process and I had a few problems with corrupted links but I think they are all fine now.
Now to the next task.....

I grow Omphalodes cappadocia from an Archibald collection in Turkey, probably no later than 1992. It's not in the master list but regrettably I don't have a record of the seed list number and the planting isn't labeled.

Jim's notes commented that the wild species was quite different from what passes under that name in the trade.

It's grown very well for me over the years, evidently liking our wet winters and dry summers.

That would be JJA713.001 Omphalodes cappadocica, Turkey, Rize below Izikdere 500m
JJA November 1986 seedlist.
