Artemisia tilesii?
« on: August 07, 2009, 09:33:15 AM »
I have two plants of Artemisia tilesii (Tilesius' Wormwood;  Alaska Sagebrush) in my garden, at least that’s what I sowed them as. It is a native to NW North America. Perhaps one of our Canadian contributors are familiar with it? When I planted them, I noticed that the plants look different. Although both are similar size and both have multiple stems coming from the root, one has red stems, the other green, and the leaves and inflorescences are different. Is anyone familiar with this species or have a key to North American Artemisia. A couple of shots below of the two plants side by side:

I am not personally familiar with it (I have a plant that was supposed to be A. herriotii = A. tilesii, but I think it may be A. longifolia?) but I can PM you a key for the species that occur in Alberta, at least.  The reference says that it is a highly variable species here.
