Title: Visit to Snape Cottage Garden-4 March 2010
Post by: David Nicholson on March 07, 2010, 08:32:34 PM
Last Thursday Maureen and I, accompanied by friends Mike Quest and Stella Tracey, visited Snape Cottage at Bourton owned by Ian and Angela Whinfield. I'm not sure if Snape Cottage is in Somerset or Dorset (it must be close to the borders of both) but it's about a couple of hours drive from me.

It is a beautiful garden and I'm sure it is worth seeing at most times of the year  http://www.snapecottagegarden.co.uk/

All plants were labelled including all the Snowdrops which I found very helpful indeed (unlike a very good Snowdrop garden not very far away from me!!)

It's rather a pity that some of the pictures that follow are not as good as I would have like them to be but, nevertheless I will post all of them as the garden did have some Snowdrops I don't think have been mentioned on the Forum before.

First of all some "meadow views"; followd by a Narcissus, 'Bowle's Early Sulphur" which is high on my "Wants List"; a Hellebore that took my eye and Iris histrioides 'Lady Beatrix Stanley. And then the Snowdrops start:-
Galanthus plicatus 'Trymlet'
G. elwesii 'Natalie Garton'
G. 'Federkleid' one of Hagen's

David,

I never realised you were so keen on snowdrops. There is obviously a nice collection at Snape Cottage Garden -and nice to see Hagen's name there. It's a small world.

Good set of shots. Many thanks,  Paddy

Thanks David, a visit is long overdue, a shame it is so far from here.  Most interesting to read the labels and see what else will be growing there later in the year too!

ps Although not labelled as such it really ought to be referred to as Bowle's Large Leaf form!
