As ever fantastic photos especially the first. You should catch a fly and stick it in the fridge for a while. It will then be very well behaved 

Today I meant to use flash on my photos but forgot. Maybe tomorrow.

Ian fantastic pictures again and as usual- loved the insect and the croci. Interested to hear about your use of the inbuilt flash which seems very effective but when really closeup the flash is usually masked out by the lens of SLR's are you using any other techniques to overcome this?

Thanks Mark and Ian, coming from two very good photographers I take that as a real compliment.

Ian, the lens I use is a 35mm macro lens (equivalent to a 70mm in 35mmSLR terms) and it sticks out less than 6cms from the body so the lens dose not cast a shadow except when I am almost touching the subject. If I am too close I will try and use a bit of whit paper or even my hand to bounce the light of the flash down but I did not need to do that with any of the shots in recent bulb logs

Ian I have been a little lazy and used  a zoom macro which has a much longer barrel. I have a 50MM macro fixed focus lens which gives about 75mm equivalent on my Nikon  in old money and I think I will try and stick with this even if it makes me work harder. Ian I do think we all have something to learn from your techniques and I for one find it helpful when you explain some of your methods since as with all things it is not so much the equipment but how it is used. So please continue to share your experience with us.

OOOPS!!
 Huge apologies, Folks:  it has just been brought to our notice by Hubi, who has been catching up with the Bulb Logs after his Mallorcan holiday, that in Log 43 http://www.srgc.org.uk/bulblog/log2008/211008/log.html   .....there is a photo of Crocus caspius which Ian has managed to label as Crocus cyprius!
Sorry about that, I'll ask Fred to fix it!

Hmm, I hadn't noticed that the text under the photo also refers to Crocus cyprius, this SHOULD read......
"Once more with Crocus caspius the left hand picture employs flash while the right hand one is in natural daylight. There is no doubt that in this case that bit of fill-in flash has brought out the true colours much better than the natural light shot has but this is not always the case so there is a good argument to always try both methods."
