Ian

What fantastic pictures (as always) Love the cambessedesii  8) 8). But the detail on those flies is fantastic. Perhaps a caption competition here is my offer for starters " anyone for dinner?"

Do you use manual focus or auto for these?

More fine pictures Ian; what a magnificent display in that first one!

Your 'Romanian' banaticus looks rather blue-purple in contrast to the more pink-purple of the usual forms in cultivation.  Wonderful.

That wee beastie is a harvestman, what species I don't know; an arachnid but not a spider.

Thanks all for your kind words.

The stars are the crocus of course and there will be more next week.

I must say that I am enjoying taking pictures so much more since I got the digital SLR, not that I was unhappy with all the other cameras but I have complete control with the SLR.
In fact I like it so much I must admit that some months ago I bought a second Olympus SLR on ebay which I use with a short zoom lens and I keep the olympus 330 which has a live screen image for macro work.
Ian I used the combination setting of auto focus with manual adjustment for the fly picture. Once the auto has focused I can tweek it manually just to get that extra sharpness.

Thanks for the harvestman ID Ashley.

I ment to say that the Romanian C. banaticus I show does have more blue in it than all the others I grow and that is what makes it stand out.
I have raised seedlings from it but these have been cross fertilised with others, this year I am trying to self it and see if I can capture that desirable feature in seed.

Ian thanks for the tip . My Nikon has live view and your method seems to work well when I use the tripod but I am afraid I am mostly lazy and go hand held which of course never gives such sharp close ups. Must try harder
