Aristea abyssinica ?
« on: July 01, 2023, 12:29:26 AM »
Another of Betty Lowry's gifts that keeps on giving.   The leaves are about 15 cm long, with the tallest flowering stem about 35 cm.  She had two listed in her seed database: Aristea cognata from Silverhill Seeds (a synonym for A. abyssinica) and Aristea sp. NSA 134 ex Naudes Nek, E. Cape.

I think my identification is close.  Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Claire,

The plant you have pictured is definitely Aristea abyssinica.

I am in USDA zone 8b where temperatures almost never fall below 15F -9.4C.  Rainfall 50" 110 cm + but none  June-September.  We seldom get snow; but when it comes we get 30" overnight. Soil is sandy loam with a lot of humus.
