As can be expected in mid-winter our snowdrops are flowering:
1) Galanthus elwesii - a group of seedlings displaying 2 green marks, but some others in the same group have single marks.
2-4) Another of the seedlings has had 4 outer petals consistently for the last 5 years

These two galanthus have decided they like the company of cyclamen!
The first appeared along with this Cyclamen persicum and the second with Cyclamen rohlfsianum.
They appear to be the same and are possibly Galanthus rizehensis
cheers

Looks like the snowdrops may have "leaf envy" !!!

To start off August, here's a neglected clump of what I believe (after posting here in earlier years) to be an elwesii x plicatus hybrid,

Galanthus "Sylvanvale hybrids" - a mix of hybrids released by Tonkin Bulbs in the Dandenongs.
These were planted very late into a new bed and I'm relieved to see them flowering.
They were a door prize at our garden club from my friend Jon (minibulb lover) who says they should be a variable lot.
In the pic you may just be able to see a couple of buds just emerging at ground level!

John Foster, a well known snowdrop grower from Reddisham has passed away. John and his wife Brenda had an annual Snowdrop day and had also opened their garden since 1977 for the National Garden Scheme, raising many tousands of pounds for charity in the process.
Another sad day for galanthophiles, and we send best wishes to Brenda and all John's family and friends.
