Camellias 2011
« on: April 03, 2011, 07:41:48 PM »
Can someone tell me if the leaves of Camellia oleifera are usually matte green?  I just transplanted 4 seedlings today and all are matte.

Also finally transplanted 10 C. japonicas collected at their northernmost post on the island of Daechong Do, close to the island recently attacked by North Korea.  All are reputedly red-flowered which seems rather odd.  Surely Camellias must extend into colder N. Korea as well.  I wonder if there are any documents on the collecting in or flora of North Korea and the possibility of even tougher Camellia japonicas?

I'd be interested to hear which species do best in the colder parts of Scotland or the continent.
